Minimum Qualifications:
• One year of service as a Facility Operations Assistant 1 or Motor Vehicle Operator; OR two years of full-time, verifiable experience in custodial, grounds, or maintenance operation or assisting in a journey-level trade.
• Must possess a valid minimum Class B New York State Commercial Driver's License without an air brake restriction and a tanker endorsement at the time of appointment.
• You are required to create a Clearinghouse account as part of your application before you can be considered for interview.
• Must possess a category 3A New York State pesticide technician license by the time of appointment.
• Must become a fully-certified pesticide applicator within one year of appointment.

Departmental Operating Needs:
Candidates must have a working knowledge of the methods and equipment used in grounds care and maintenance work; horticultural maintenance; operation and maintenance of tools, equipment and vehicles used in grounds maintenance and/or moving services.

Candidates must:
• Be able to explain and demonstrate their skills and competency for this position
• Be able to fully participate in essential activities crucial to the operation of the university, such as snow/ice removal and road repair
• Communicate well with other employees and our campus community
• Attend and fully participate in departmental and university training sessions as prescribed
• Possess and have demonstrated positive customer service skills
• Be able to understand and follow written and/or oral instructions

This position may be responsible for leading a team in the clearance of snow and ice removal from our campuses. Because the health, safety and welfare of our campus community is dependent on the person in this position, a demonstrated history of reliable attendance is a factor that will be considered when filling this vacancy.

Physical Demands:
• Must be able to perform tasks that involve medium to heavy lifting and frequent exposure to various weather conditions, with or without reasonable accommodation, and use a dolly or other lifting aids when necessary.
• Must be able to perform the physical demands of the position as outlined in the Position Summary.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working in a grounds department in an institutional (campus) setting.
• Supervisory skills such as scheduling and assigning work within their team, Providing clear and concise instructions, training capabilities, Procurement (ordering materials), and producing comprehensive written activity reports.

Special Instructions Summary:
Applicants will be required to provide their driver's license information and create a Clearinghouse account to enable participation in the License Event Notification Service (LENS) and Clearinghouse for Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration.

The FMCDS Commercial Driver's License Drug and Alcohol Clearinghouse is a secure online database that will allow the University at Buffalo to request access from applicants to identify drivers who commit drug and alcohol program violations.

Duties Description Position Summary:
Campus Operations at the University at Buffalo is hiring a Facility Operations Assistant 2 for the Moving Services Division of the Grounds Department. You will be responsible for completing the tasks listed below:

• Supervise and assist as needed employees in various labor classes to perform work within the Moving & Trucking Department, a subset of Grounds.
• In this position the individual may oversee a crew consisting of Motor Vehicle Operators (SG-7), Facility Operations Assistants 1 (SG-6), student employees, part-time staff, and other staff as required.

Tasks within Moving Services are consistent with, but not limited to:
• Loads and unloads heavy equipment, supplies, and furniture by physically lifting items or operating a hand truck, forklift or pallet jack.
• Moves items to and from storerooms and/or warehouses; maintains storage areas.
• Assists truck drivers and motor vehicle operators in picking up and delivering items. May drive delivery vehicles.
• Moves heavy furniture, office equipment, and records.
• Sets up and removes furniture, partitions, and equipment for office moves, conferences, meetings, and special events.
• Sets up chairs, podiums and related equipment for conferences, seminars and special events.
• Loads, unloads and assembles furniture and equipment as assigned.

You may also be asked to complete tasks within the larger Grounds Department as needed, that are consist with, but are not limited to:
• Materials Recycling
• Garbage collection
• Street sweeping
• Utility parking and storage lots
• Equipment operation
• Athletic field maintenance
• Snow and ice removal
