The Caltrans Maintenance Manager I is responsible for assisting the Maintenance Manager II in implementing, evaluating and sustaining major programs and maintenance policies in the Maintenance Region. Assists the Maintenance Manager II in field operations for the Maintenance Region. The incumbent will advise and consult with top-level district and statewide management, propose new programs, directions or legislation as appropriate. This classification requires a valid Class C California Driver's License.

Assists the Maintenance Manager II in field operations for the Maintenance
Region. Sets work priorities, provides staffing, training and resources, conducts safety reviews, oversees uniform maintenance practices and levels of service, reviews difficult maintenance or minor construction operation problems, investigates and sets priorities for major maintenance operations such as, snow removal operations, maintenance operations and all highway and structure maintenance operations. Performs field review of State Highways for deficiencies that require rehabilitation, reconstruction or repaving, reviews minor projects such as drainage repairs and structural sections repairs. Acts as field maintenance team leader on storm damage review teams after major storm damages. Reviews plans and specifications of proposed construction projects with regard to maintenance requirements and makes recommendations. Utilizing information provided by Integrated Maintenance Management System (IMMS); assists the Maintenance Manager II with overall planning and monitoring of workload levels, directing equipment and material utilization. Provides a high level of technical and management expertise for Maintenance Operations.

Multiple positions may be filled from this recruitment.

While at their base of operation, employees will work in a climate-controlled office under artificial lighting. Will be required to travel district wide, work outdoors and may be exposed to dirt, noise, uneven surfaces, extreme heat or cold. May perform work requiring irregular hours, including night shifts, weekends and holidays. Is on call for and responds to incidents involving Maintenance personnel.

New to State candidates will be hired into the minimum salary of the classification or minimum of alternate range when applicable.
