Camp Manito-wish YMCA is an overnight camp located in Boulder Junction, WI focusing on wilderness tripping and leadership development.

Job Description

Provide overall direction to summer programs (Summer Camp and Family Camp) and related support areas to ensure that all delivery systems are of the highest quality, engages strategic planning, and incorporates character and leadership development through the Manito-wish collaborative leadership model. Programs include a high emphasis on wilderness tripping (canoeing, backpacking, and kayaking) as well as but not limited to: Archery, riflery, horsebackriding, mountainbiking, crafts, nature, sailing, boating, swimming, and challenge course activities.

Qualifications

To perform satisfactorily, the applicant should bring the following credentials, experience, and skills to this position:
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college, university, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience leading the day-to-day operations of an overnight camping program and best practices of summer camp administration.
  • Successful experience in hiring, training, supervision of and proven experience leading collaborative teams.
  • Wilderness First Responder certification or ability and willingness to obtain certification withinthe first 6-months of employment.
  • ACCT Challenge Course Certification or ability and willingness to obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Serve Safe Food Manager license or ability and willingness to obtain certification within 6 months.
  • Ability to travel to recruit participants and staff.
  • Exceptional knowledge of wildernesstripping-canoeing,backpackingandsea kayaking .
  • Excellent communication skills to interface with program participants, parents, volunteers, staff, vendors, and partners.
  • Ability to drive with a record that meets organizational expectations.


Essential Functions

The Camp Director will perform the following essential functions:
  • Collaborate with Operations Director, Wilderness Risk Director, and Property Manager (Operations Team) for effective oversight of all operations.
  • Responsible for the day-to-day summer program operations.
  • Oversee all kitchen and meal service operations so they exceed health code standards and ensure food quality, quantity, staffing, and equipment serving the camp community.
  • Support Wilderness Risk Director in the coordination and planning of Outdoor Leaders School.
  • Hire and supervise the Summer Camp Program Director and EPIC Staff.
  • Collaborate with Wilderness Risk Director on the hiring, managing, and evaluating of applicable seasonal staff.
  • Collaborate with Director of Marketing and Recruitment to meet participant and staffing recruitment goals, including being the point person for international staff.
  • Implement curriculum and lesson plans for staff training, participant learning outcomes and staff development.
  • Oversee and maintain risk management efforts such as ACA standards, child abuse prevention best practices, and support efforts for insurance and state health requirements.
  • Create and take responsibility for appropriate program budget expenses with the Wilderness Risk Director and Operations Director.
  • Be a leader to inspire collective dialogue, education, and action to ensure a diverse and inclusive culture at Camp Manito-wish.
  • Operate as a voice of program, with the Wilderness Risk Director and Operations Director, to parents, alumni, community stakeholders and prospects.
  • Implement appropriate aspects of the strategic plan.
  • Hold 24-hour on-call responsibilities in rotation with other staff and respond to emergencies.
  • Live on-site and fulfill host duties as assigned throughout the year.
  • Assist with recruiting partners, supporting group facilitation, providing staff training support and performing administrative duties, including payroll.
  • Skills to utilize Microsoft office applications and other administrative tools.
  • Other duties as assigned,
