Summary

The H. Lee Moffitt Cancer and Research Institute and Lung Cancer Center of Excellence are offering a unique training opportunity for a pathologist to gain specialty experience in lung cancer molecular pathology research. The fellow will receive one-on-one training in lung cancer translational research by a faculty thoracic molecular pathologist and experience in lung cancer research. Research opportunities include: evaluation of signaling pathways with proximity assays, immune biology with translation to immunotherapy clinical trials, genomics including next generation sequencing, exploration of mechanisms of drug resistance, clinical applications of mass spectrometry to lung cancer, and cancer metabolism.

Position Highlights:


  • This position offers a one-year lung cancer translational research experience working directly with a thoracic molecular pathologist on research projects and clinical trials. It offers flexibility to attend educational conferences and to prepare for a pathologist career with specialized experience in lung cancer research. Protected writing time will be offered.



The Ideal Candidate:


  • The ideal candidate is a pathologist with a serious interest in lung cancer research and precision medicine and good writing, technical, and project management skills.



Responsibilities and learning opportunities include:


  • Assess lung cancer specimens from the lung cancer rapid tissue donation program and other studies

  • Develop and implement scoring systems for IHC and fluorescence biomarkers for targeted and immune therapy and proximity assays

  • Assess tissue slides from genetically engineered mouse models for lung cancer

  • Write scientific abstracts and manuscripts



Credentials and Qualifications:


  • An M.D. with completion of anatomic pathology and/or clinical pathology residency is required

  • Desirable, though not required: Completion of board-eligible fellowship
