CAPITAL MASTER PLAN PLANNER I: CAD

To conduct a variety of educational and community planning functions in addition to performing facility research and analyses which enable the District to fulfill its educational mission. Responsible for a) preparing and maintaining electronic drawings of district facilities using AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite/Illustrator or other drafting software, b) maintaining accurate facility data including room numbers, floor plans, and existing amenities, c) provision of school safety and evacuation plans d) on an as needed basis, preparing conceptual plans for remodels, furniture planning and installations and any other planning functions preceding smaller scale construction projects. The incumbent will report directly to the Capital Master Plan Senior Planner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Incumbent works a 40 hour a week schedule as per the stipulations of a full time position under the supervision of the Senior Planner:
  • Responsible for maintaining the District wide room naming convention for all spaces within the District including classrooms, Draws, maintains and updates drawings of all District facilities using AutoCAD, Adobe Creative Suite/Illustrator or other drafting software and related equipment
  • Assists in the maintenance of the portable building database
  • Responsible for setting up and maintaining a shared electronic file system of all CAD/electronic building files
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of an electronic district wide infrastructure map and database
  • Assists in the creation and maintenance of electronic district wide fire evacuation plans and database for every single facility
  • Maintains and updates a library of hanging files of all District facilities housing the history of construction and "as-built" drawingoffices, hallways, closets, and vestibules for the purpose of school planning and materials management.
  • Responsible for maintaining Room Number Data for all District Facilities including schools and administrative offices.
  • Responsible for implementing and overseeing the Room Change Process for requests to add, delete or modify rooms in the District for existing, renovation and new facilities
  • Participates in meetings and presentations with the Board of Education, administration, community and other interested parties regarding facility planning, facility data, and evacuation and safety plans
  • Works with local, state and federal agencies on community planning issues, which may affect schools and/or the District.
  • Reviews and provides input to site utilization survey results, particularly pertaining to District Administration and Ancillary Support Programs.
  • As needed, develops conceptual plans to communicate and articulate program and design needs of educational and ancillary support programs.
  • Collaborates with other staff to plan for District furniture needs
  • Coordinates with other departments and private contractors on an on-going basis to maintain up-to-date set of drawing for all district facilities
  • Produces drawings, presentations and graphic materials as needed.
  • Able to use various software applications, such as Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office software, for the purpose of preparing reports
  • Attend Mid Region Council of Government Meetings when the Senior Planner is not able to attend
  • Provides coordination support and takes minutes during community meetings.
  • Participates in meetings with District staff to further the mission of the Department


PREFERRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND EXPERIENCE:
  • Knowledge of city and county development review processes
  • Advanced skills with database and spreadsheet software.
  • Experience in governmental accounting, auditing or financial management.
  • Knowledge of the Lawson financial system or similar integrated financial system.
  • Knowledge of residential building permitting practices and procedures.
  • Knowledge of APS community and the structure and functioning of public school districts.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Flexibility, organization, decision-making and problem solving skills.
  • Interpersonal skills with diverse populations, in-person and on the telephone.
  • Ability to meet deadlines, work on multiple projects and coordinate the work of others.

Ability to incorporate technology into the workplace and train others for greater efficiency

REQUIREMENTS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Architecture or related field plus experience in Facility Planning, including use of computer aided drafting techniques.
  • Four (4) experience years computer aided drafting (CAD)
  • Proficient with computer spreadsheets, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Suite Software, AutoCAD and database software.
  • Excellent computer aided drafting experience (CAD)
  • The incumbent will be required to seek appropriate planning certifications (i.e. AICP)
  • Valid New Mexico driver's license
  • Proficient in working with personal computers, email, Internet, spreadsheets and word processing.
  • Experience in identifying, documenting and resolving problems.
