PURPOSE OF POSITION: To provide safe and effective patient care to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center patients. To participate in the training and education of residents; fellows and other trainees. To participate in research projects; either independently or in collaboration with other researchers. To provide; communicate and implement clinical care plans that align with the programmatic plans and policies to achieve the mission; vision and values of Cincinnati Children's.

REPRESENTATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

• Patient Care

Participate in safe, effective and compassionate patient care. Provide disease specific expert consultation relative to the clinical discipline. Examine patients to determine presence of disease. Determine nature and extent of disease or injury, formulate plan of care. Perform procedures, collect data, analyze date and make decisions regarding patient care, including initial assessment, diagnosis, prognosis, treatment, reassessment and discontinuation of care. Evaluate, formulate, maintain, support, monitor and modify a patient-specific plan for care, treatment and rehabilitation based on the patient's assessment. Physicians may work in inpatient and/or outpatient settings. Plan and coordinate discharge treatment plan. Care may include medical diagnostic, therapeutic care including management of medical emergencies which may require technical procedures. May provide consultation for patients in the emergency room, admitted to the hospital or in outpatient clinics.

• Safety and Continuous Improvement

Continuously assess and improve the performance of services provided. Compliance with CCHMC safety, code of conduct, integrity standards.

• Training and Education

Provide direction to medical students and residents, fellows and other health care professionals in the treatment of patients and professional conduct. Ability to teach medical students and residents, and fellows general patient management as well as specifics related to the clinical discipline. Attend and participate in lectures, seminars, presentations, and conferences within the division as well as multi-disciplinary conferences. Participate in national conferences either as an official attendee or a presenter. Implement knowledge to patient care plans and procedures. Abide by the continuing education goals of the department.

• Scholarly Activity

Participates in scholarly activities as evidenced by: publication of clinical investigation, clinical observations, reviews, chapters or books; participation in clinical trials, and/or clinical investigations; and submission of a manuscript to an acceptable journal for publication. May assist in the design and conduct clinical research within areas of clinical specialty. Publish and/or co-author findings and conclusions resulting from research in a timely fashion. Presents findings internally. May assist in the design and implementation of programs which evaluates the efficacy of treatment. May assist in obtaining funding from outside sources for research and teaching programs.

• Regulatory Compliance

Follow CCHMC's established code of ethical behavior in decisions and actions regarding marketing, admission, transfer, and discharge. Is compliance with policies and procedures protecting patient rights for informed consent and the handling of confidential information as defined by CCHMC's mission and applicable laws and regulations. Ensure orientation, in-service training and continuing education according to CCHMC guidelines. Is compliance with all departmental policies, procedures, job descriptions and philosophy as consistent with Cincinnati Children's policies and values. Is compliance with all JCAHO guidelines, procedures and policies.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

• M.D., D.O., or equivalent degree

• Current active medical license issued by the State of Ohio or eligible for license

• Appropriate medical credentialing through the Medical Staff Services office

• Completion of all required pre-employment activitie

• Clinical Instructor appointment or eligibility

• Prior clinical practice experience may be required based on area of clinical specialty
