Job Description

Position Overview:

The Cardiovascular Tech I position at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) is responsible for assisting in various cardiovascular procedures under the direction of physicians and senior cardiovascular technologists. This role requires a combination of technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to patient care.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assist in preparing patients for cardiovascular procedures, including obtaining medical histories and explaining procedures to patients.
  • Set up and operate cardiovascular monitoring equipment, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.
  • Monitor patients' vital signs during procedures and report any abnormalities or concerns to the medical team.
  • Assist physicians and senior technologists during diagnostic and interventional cardiovascular procedures, such as angiograms, catheterizations, and electrophysiology studies.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, including sterilizing equipment and ensuring compliance with infection control protocols.
  • Document patient information, procedure details, and outcomes accurately in electronic medical records (EMRs) or other documentation systems.
  • Provide support to patients and their families, addressing questions, concerns, and providing education as needed.


Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and move quickly in a clinical environment.
  • Lift and move equipment and assist with patient transfers, requiring physical strength and dexterity.
  • Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination for handling delicate instruments and equipment.
  • Visual acuity and attention to detail for reading monitors, equipment displays, and patient charts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and high-stress environment, remaining calm and focused during emergencies or critical situations.
  • Flexibility to work rotating shifts, weekends, and holidays as needed in a healthcare setting.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of a cardiovascular technology program or related certification preferred.
  • Basic life support (BLS) certification required; advanced cardiovascular life support (ACLS) certification may be required for some roles.
  • Previous experience in cardiovascular procedures or healthcare settings is desirable but not mandatory for entry-level positions.
  • Strong communication skills, teamwork abilities, and a commitment to patient-centered care. Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies, procedures, and protocols.
