About the Opportunity

The Behavioral Health Care Manager functions is a core member of the collaborative care team that includes existing services at the Carruth Center for Counseling and Psychological Services, WVU Healthy Minds University and Student Health Urgent Care. Coordination of long-term counseling, psychiatric and primary care services for WVU students, as well as linkages to broadly available services and programs to WVU students across the University, and WVU Medicine service lines will be emphasized.

What you'll do:

• Support the mental/physical health care of students on an assigned caseload. Closely coordinate care with the CARE team, Campus Police, Student Health and Healthy Minds University providers and other mental health providers.
• Work with assigned campus partners to assist with facilitating referrals to CCCPS services.
• Screen and assess students for common mental health and substance abuse disorders. Facilitate patient engagement and follow-up care.
• Provide student education about common mental health and substance abuse disorders and the available treatment options.
• Systematically track treatment response and monitor clients (in person or by telephone) for changes in clinical symptoms and treatment side effects or complications.
• Provide brief behavioral interventions using evidence-based techniques such as behavioral activation, problem-solving treatment, motivational interviewing, or other treatments as appropriate.
• Provide risk assessment and reduction interventions for students presenting in crisis or with acute distress from Student Health or the Emergency Department.
• Provide or facilitate in-clinic or outside referrals as clinically indicated.
• Participate in regularly scheduled caseload consultation with the Healthy Minds University and/or Student Health consultant and communicate resulting treatment recommendations to the student's provider.
• Provide multiculturally sensitive brief counseling (virtual and in-person) for individuals with diverse presenting concerns.
• Provide clinical services including, but not limited to, assessment, treatment planning, short-term counseling, group counseling, crisis intervention services, psychoeducation, and care management.
• Conduct comprehensive intake evaluations, triage, and participate in CCCPS' crisis intervention services, crisis clinic, and after-hours crisis coverage (initial responses and crisis stabilization provided by ProtoCall staff).
• Administer and document risk assessments and risk reduction interventions.

Qualifications

• Completed MA/MS/MSW degree from an accredited program (counseling, social work, psychology)
• 1-2 years of experience providing case management and/or short-term counseling individual counseling with adults.
• Experience with intake/triage assessment, crisis assessment, stabilization and related disposition of care in outpatient settings, hospital systems and higher level of care.
• Case management experience as a case manager or therapist
• Working knowledge of differential diagnosis of common mental health, general medical and substance use disorders when appropriate.
• Skills and abilities required to assess and respond to unpredictable clinical presentations and related calls from campus and parent stakeholders in the context of ethical and legal parameters and to provide crises related services.
• Ability to utilize an electronic health record system.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficiency in use of Electronic Health Record.
• Experience with data management and related software.
• Demonstrated commitment to cultural humility and affirmative care for all students.
• Excellent organizational, management, and communication skills.
• Ability to work successfully as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team (including social workers, counselors, psychologists, and psychiatrists).
• Geographical availability to provide timely on campus emergency responses during on call weeks (2- 4 weeks per year).
• Practical and ethical knowledge regarding the provision of telehealth services.

Licensed (or license-eligible) Counselor or Social Worker (LICSW) or Psychologist within 18 months in the State of WV.
