Required Qualifications (as evidenced by an attached resume):Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher). Two (2) years of full time administrative experience (student experience may be considered).

Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) in Higher Education, Student Affairs, Business or a related field. Career or academic coaching within a college population. Experience conducting presentations, workshops, and/or training in person and online with a college-educated population. Experience with technology applications, such as online career research databases, career networking sites or web-based recruitment systems. Experience with careers in law, government, or public service.

Brief Description of Duties:You bring high energy, positivity, resourcefulness, adaptability, communication and interpersonal skills, a growth mindset and student-centered philosophy to career coaching with diverse college students. You thrive as part of a fast-paced, continuous motion team who strives for our personal best every day.

Career Coaching:
  • Coach and prepare students individually and in groups via F2F and virtual, on job/internship search strategies, helping students to clarify career interests, compose strong personal branding and applications, and present professionally. Guides students in academic planning for law school. Guide students on the use of Handshake and other career tools; conduct mock interviews and critique application materials.

Programming/Event Management:
  • Organize F2F and virtual programs to prepare students for the workforce and law school. Coordinate alumni mentoring program for pre-law students. Maintain Pre Law Brightspace. Provide logistical support for employer-student events (i.e. career fairs, networking meet-ups). Use a variety of technologies to support these activities.

Outreach and Campus Liaison Work:
  • Serve as liaison to select academic departments, faculty, and staff, as well as career focused student organizations.

Information Management & Teamwork:
  • Uses sophisticated career center management software and other survey tools to collect data and track placements. Produce reports on law school applications/acceptances. Review, approve, and promote opportunities posted in our recruitment system, Handshake.

Professional Development and Committee Involvement:
  • Participates in opportunities that promote their learning, growth, and development (i.e., classes, training, committees, webinars).
  • Contributes to the Division of Student Affairs and Stony Brook University by attending and/or supporting events, activities, and programs sponsored by areas within and outside the Office of Student Life (i.e., campus-wide traditions, events, programs).
  • Other duties or projects as assigned as appropriate to rank and departmental mission.
  • Evening and weekend work may be required at times.

Special Notes:This is a full-time appointment. FLSA Non Exempt position, eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA.

Essential Position: This has been designated as an essential position based on the duties of the job and the functions performed. Positions that are designated as such may be required to report to work/remain at work even if classes are canceled, and the campus is working on limited operations in an emergency.

In addition to the employee's base salary, this position is eligible for $3,400 UUP annual location pay, paid biweekly.
