CAREER TECHNICAL EDUCATION TEACHER - HEALTH SCIENCE

QUALIFICATIONS :
  1. Minimum of an associate's degree from an accredited educational institution with an Alabama license in one of the following occupational proficiencies listed below and verification of three years of full-time work experience within the past seven years.
  2. Passing score on the WorkKeys assessment if less than a bachelor's degree.
  3. A valid background check report for employment and /or certification/ licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
  4. Must complete the Career and Technical education teacher certification program .
  5. Must have an active Alabama license in one of the following:
    • Registered Nurse
    • Licensed Practical Nurse
    • Paramedic
    • Occupational Therapists
    • Pharmacist
    • Physical Therapist
    • Physical Therapy Assistant
    • Physician
    • Physician Assistant
    • Occupational Therapy Assistant
    • RN Nurse Practitioner
    • Respiratory Therapist
    • Veterinarian
    • Athletic Trainer (not Personal Trainer)
    • Registered Technologist - Radiography

REPORTS TO : Principal and Career Tech Director

SUPERVISES: Students and staff members designated by the Board or the superintendent

JOB GOAL:

To help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their development as mature, able, and responsible men and women.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of career technical education in the subject/field/cluster assigned.
  2. Builds partnerships and collaborates with healthcare professionals.
  3. Stays abreast of current trends and practices in the area of Health Science and disseminates such information.
  4. Coordinates clinical/internship experiences for eligible student candidates.
  5. Prepares students for successful employment in the healthcare industry, successful completion of an industry credential, and/or successful performance at the college/university level.
  6. Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
  7. Plans a program of study that, as much as possible, meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
  8. Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
  9. Prepares for classes assigned, and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
  10. Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  11. Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, projects, and the like to communicate these objectives to students.
  12. Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media, consistent with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  13. Strives to implement by instruction and action the district's philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives.
  14. Assesses the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
  15. Implements any specialized learning plans, accommodations, or modifications for students as required.
  16. Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  17. Maintains accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, district policy, and administrative regulation.
  18. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct, and for the classroom, develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure, and maintains order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
  19. Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
  20. Plans and supervises purposeful assignments for teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s) and cooperatively with department heads evaluates their job performance.
  21. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence.
  22. Attends staff meetings and serves on staff committees as required.
  23. Dresses and conducts self in a professional manner.
  24. Works with colleagues to enhance school climate and overall academic program.
  25. Develops, implements, and revises instructional plans and lessons for effective instruction, student achievement, and program operation according to career technical education compliance standards.
  26. Maintains contact with business/industry community to keep abreast of job entry requirements, current technology and practices in the designated content field.
  27. Maintains controls and inventories of program equipment and resources.
  28. Instructs students in the use, care, maintenance, and safe operation of program equipment and tools in the assigned field of instruction.
  29. Manages and advises related program CTSO (Career Technical Student Organization) and incorporates applicable leadership activities into the program curriculum.
  30. Performs other job related duties as assigned.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Nine (9) months unless otherwise determined by the board. Salary and work year to be established by the board.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of professional personnel and as directed by the Alabama State Department of Education personnel evaluation requirements.
