POSITION PURPOSE

The Carpet Cleaner (NE S WFSE Campuswide) cleans carpets and upholstery in Housing and Food Services buildings by operating a mobile, truck-mounted carpet extractor, other portable carpet equipment, upholstery equipment and other power equipment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Use equipment including but not limited to the following: truck mounted unit, scrub wand, rotary carpet extractor, hard surface rotary tool, upright vacuum, and bonnet machine.

  • Maintain log and submit reports on labor and material costs based on square footage cleaned.

  • Schedule; obtain keys, and clean apartments, residence hall rooms and public areas in units, which are both vacant and occupied.

  • Participate in periodic training in use of chemicals and supplies, and in carpet and upholstery fabric cleaning.

  • Maintain inventory of equipment and products for purchase and for scheduling maintenance.

  • Perform minor mechanical maintenance on carpet cleaning equipment.

  • Work in locations within the Department as well as other University facilities without direct supervision.

  • Establish and maintain good public relations with students and staff.

  • Clean upholstery using portable cleaning equipment.

  • Perform custodial duties as assigned.

  • Drive University vehicles to deliver items and commute to various HFS locations in or around campus.

  • Perform occasional pressure washing.

  • Perform related duties as required.

    New hires typically start at $21.99 per hour

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

  • Six months' custodial experience.

  • A valid Washington State Driver's License may be required.

  • Physical ability to do required work.

  • Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.

    DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

    Competitive candidates will possess experience that demonstrates:

  • Previous success as a Custodian or housekeeper.

  • An eye for detail.

  • Dedication to a high level of customer satisfaction.

  • Experience with Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.

  • Physical ability to perform work.

  • Six months of carpet cleaning experience or equivalent experience (e.g., seminars, on-job training).

  • Experience that demonstrates working knowledge of carpet and upholstery cleaning equipment.

  • Experience and references that demonstrate ability to:

  • Understand written and verbal instructions in English.

  • Effectively interact and communicate in a variety of situations.

  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to use the Internet, email and basic computer applications.

    CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • A satisfactory outcome from the employment verification and reference check processes.

  • Possession of a valid State of Washington Driver's License.
