Job Summary

Monitors special education documents such as the Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), Behavioral Intervention Plan (BIP) and procedures such as Manifestation Determination, to ensure compliance with federal, state and local mandates. Evaluates and determines the professional development needs of building level staff in order to deliver high quality substantive training and consultative support. Collaborates with administrators on instructional best practices and interventions, Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) rules and regulations, and transition services to ensure foundational understanding of IDEA and adherence.

Essential Functions
  • Coordinates the provision of special education services per the students' IEPs , including specially designed instruction and provision of all related service needs.
  • Responds to constituent concerns and works with parents and school staff to resolve disputes regarding special education services; maintains ongoing communication with parents, school staff and the community.
  • Collects and analyzes data; prepares reports and data related to compliance and monitors the progress of students with physical and mental challenges; ensures that the IEPS are implemented correctly and that goals and objectives are updated as required.
  • Facilitates approved private school referrals.
  • Coordinates and manages upper grade level transfers and early intervention student transition of services.
Minimum Requirements
  • Master's degree from an accredited college or university in education or a related field.
  • Three years of full-time, paid, professional experience outside the classroom in a leadership role.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of:

• federal and state legislation regarding special education.

• current special education consent agreement requirements.

• the uses and capabilities of personal computers and their software applications.
