ABOUT THIS POSITION

The Community Services Division of the Human Services Department provides holistic and coordinated services to Phoenix's low-income, vulnerable, and senior residents through a qualified and dedicated workforce. The Community Services Program offers a variety of social services to low-income households experiencing crisis. Services are provided through three family services centers. Each center provides a broad range of assistance with urgent needs as well as short and long-term case management services. Currently there is a vacancy for a Casework Aide at the John F. Long Family Service Center.

Casework Aide responsibilities include interviewing clients, conducting assessments to determine eligibility for federally funded programs and assistance needed; providing referrals to appropriate agencies for services and client follow-up. Casework Aides should have wide-range knowledge of social services programs, networking, and information and referral resources. Responsibilities require considerable contact with diverse low-income groups, other agencies, anti-poverty workers and the public.

IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Skilled in communicating with and motivating people.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word.

SALARY

Pay Range: $15.31 to $27.49 per hour.

Hiring Range: $15.31 to $22.61 per hour.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year of experience working in a social service environment
  • Some college level course work in social work, sociology, social services, or a related field
  • Other combinations of experience and education that meet the minimum requirements may be substituted.

  • Some positions require the use of personal or City vehicles on City business. Individuals must be physically capable of operating the vehicles safely, possess a valid driver's license and have an acceptable driving record. Use of a personal vehicle for City business will be prohibited if the employee is not authorized to drive a City vehicle or if the employee does not have personal insurance coverage.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The minimum qualifications listed above, plus:
  • Experience providing quality customer service to the public by telephone, email, or in person.
  • Experience working with culturally and economically diverse families and individuals.
  • Experience providing social service information and referrals.
  • Experience working in a collaborative team environment.
  • Experience completing case note documentation.
  • Bilingual skills in the Spanish language is desirable but not required.
