Governor Polis announced on May 4, 2023 that this classification (if working within a 24/7 facility) may be eligible for non-base building temporary pay up to 10% through Fiscal Year 24/25 which ends in June 2025. Salary: The starting salary for this position is $5,845 per month. While the entire salary range is listed, new hires are appointed at $5,845/month.

Description of Job

This position provides entry-level marketable job skills to inmate students by delivering career and technical Computer information Systems (CIS) instruction. Instruction is in accordance with the Colorado Community College System (CCCS) and/or the Colorado State Licensing Board (if applicable).

Job Duties Include:
  • Teach and mentor inmate students individually or in large and small group classrooms promoting academic performance skills;
  • Determine educational needs of inmate students to develop short and long term goals;
  • Develop and implement competency-based teaching aids such as instructional software, multimedia visual aids, or study materials;
  • Lecture on theories, concepts and terminology;
  • Select and administer appropriate performance assessments to inmate students in order to measure progress, course completion requirements, and to evaluate training/testing effectiveness;
  • Prepare reports and maintain records such as inmate student grades, attendance rosters, and training activity details;
  • Observe and evaluate inmate students' work to determine progress, provide feedback, and make suggestions for improvement;
  • Document inmate achievements, competencies and contact hours towards completion of certificate requirements;
  • Justify accuracy and usage of budget requests;
  • Participate in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field, and integrate relevant information into training programs;
  • Commitment to teamwork and collaboration with fellow teachers in a cooperative effort to promote mutual and continued guidance and improvements;
  • Actively contribute to the *safety and security of the facility through effective student inmate management and promoting conflict resolution and solutions;
  • Endorse and adhere to the CDOC Mission and Vision promoting commitment and integrity.
  • Maintain Colorado Community College Teaching Credential.
  • Safety & Security - position maintains safety and security by training inmates; and occasionally or in an emergent situation perform inmate counts, shakedowns, searches, escorts, movement control, and inmate access to classrooms. Through conscientious observation and adherence to agency Administrative Regulations and the Code of Penal Discipline, the position promotes a safe and secure work environment.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with an Associate's Degree in Information Technology or related field of study ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in the Information Technology industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours as referenced above.

SUBSTITUTION:

In lieu of an Associate's Degree in Information Technology or related field of study, applicant must possess a current State of Colorado, national, industry, military, or union license/certification as appropriate for the Information Technology industry skill or related trade area ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 4,000hours of verifiable occupational experience in the Information Technology industry related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

There is no substitution for the completed 4,000 hours as referenced above.

SUBSTITUTION:

Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology or related field of study ---AND--- the applicant must have completed 2,000 hours of verifiable occupational experience in Information Technology related to the credential area within the last seven (7) years as per the requirements of the Colorado Community College System (CCCS).

There is no substitution for the completed 2,000 hours as referenced above.

Out of State Applicants Minimum Qualifications
  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in an education related field.
  • Must possess the appropriate educator license for your state (A copy of your license MUST be scanned and uploaded to this application at the time your application is submitted.)

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR OUT OF STATE APPLICANTS: If you are offered a State Teacher I position with the Colorado Department or Corrections, you may be assessed for a Temporary Educator and Training Credential while you are obtaining the appropriate Colorado teaching license necessary for his position. Upon acceptance of the position, you would be expected to initiate the license application with the Colorado Department of Education immediately and provide regular status updates. You would then need to obtain the appropriate Colorado teaching credential within one year of hire.

Conditions of employment for Minimum Requirements and Substitutions listed above:
  • Must possess or obtain a CCCS post-secondary credential in an Information Technology field in compliance with the CCCS within six (6) months of date of hire.
  • Must obtain a CCCS Professional Teacher Credential within three (3) years of date of hire.
  • Must maintain a CCCS Initial or Professional Teacher Credential through the duration of employment.
A copy of your college transcripts noting type of degree and date conferred MUST be attached to this application in order to receive college coursework credit.

If an unofficial copy of transcripts is being submitted at the time of application, transcripts from colleges or universities outside the United States must be assessed for U.S. equivalency by a NACES educational credential evaluation service. This documentation is the responsibility of the applicant and must be included as part of your application materials.
