Duties and Responsibilities:

Center for Disability Services Academic Coordinator
The Center for Disability Services Academic Coordinator performs a variety of administrative and accommodation support tasks for the Center for Disability Services. This position reports to the Director regarding the implementation of academic-related accommodations and resources for students with disabilities.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with assigned caseload of students with disabilities. Maintain thorough, accurate, and confidential records for each student related to eligibility, accommodation decisions and recommendations, and delivery of reasonable accommodations.
  • Conduct one-on-one meetings with students to develop strategies that promote student success, specifically focusing on academic and career development. Collaborate closely with various departments across the university in support of this mission.
  • Collaborate with instructors to identify volunteer note-takers. Provide regular training and materials for note-takers and other individuals selected to assist students receiving accommodations.
  • Coordinate the administration, scribing, proctoring, and alternative-format delivery of exams. Assess testing center usage each semester and collect data related to that usage.
  • Participate in outreach to new and prospective students and families regarding the processes and procedures of the Center for Disability Services.
  • Assist in the retrieval and organization of data via the Accommodate platform.
  • Collaborate with professionals from local community agencies to ensure appropriate and timely student referrals.
  • Represent CDS at campus-wide events, such as Orientation and Warhawk Welcome Week, as needed.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to communicate respectfully with individuals from diverse backgrounds; uphold and further AUM's strategic plan and core values.
  • Cultural competence in matters regarding race, sex, religion, national origin, age, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, economic status, and/or disability.
  • Experience approaching sensitive situations with discretion and tact.
  • High attention to detail, demonstrated adaptability, strong organizational skills, and self-motivated problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills when corresponding with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Knowledge of current professional standards in disability support services.
  • Demonstrated experience with postsecondary academic support.
  • Knowledge of disability laws as they pertain to higher education, including Section 504 and 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act and subsequent amendments, WCAG 2.1, FERPA , and the Fair Housing Act.
  • Experience using accessibility features of Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe, ABBYY FineReader, and familiarity with AT hardware and software, including JAWS , Dragon, Claro, BrailleBlaster, Duxbury, and Sonocent/Glean.
  • Working knowledge of Accommodate preferred.


Minimum Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Services, or related field and one year of experience in disability services. A Master's degree in a related field may be substituted for up to two years of the required experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

Master's degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Rehabilitation Services, or related field. Knowledge of ASL and/or Braille.
