Examples of Duties Provide professional learning and communicate best practices for welcoming and instructing newcomer students in school. Collaborate with colleagues in CYT and Multilingual Education Department to provide quality professional learning opportunities focused on an assets-based approach and other key strategies that are most effective for supporting newcomer students. Co-plan, co-teach and or model lessons that support strategies specific for newcomers Integrated and Designated English Language Development (ELD) by utilizing strategies from the Newcomer Toolkit, from the U.S. Department of Education. Collaborate with schools and contracted agencies to provide leadership skill development for newcomers including the continuation and/or implementation of leadership councils at schools sites and participation in the CalNEW Youth Council. Collaborate with community partners and schools to identify and support Newcomers and Unaccompanied Undocumented minors.

Collect, analyze, and provide feedback on data and assessments required for grant reporting, including participation in the CalNEW evaluation and technical assistance activities. Complete semi-annual reporting requirements by collaborating with key stakeholders to collect required data and documentation for reporting purposes. Plan, attend, participate, and facilitate site, cluster, and or district family and outreach and resource fairs. Attend district sponsored professional development opportunities. Participate in the weekly operations of the Newcomer Welcome Center. Support sites with newcomer placement.

Minimum Qualifications Qualified applicants must possess a valid California teaching credential (Multiple subject for elementary or Single Subject for Secondary), hold appropriate certification to teach English learners (BCLAD, CLAD, or other equivalent certification (BCLAD preferred). Applicant's credential must be attached to their application and registered with the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing by the close of the posting. We require a minimum of three years teaching experience at the elementary or secondary levels (TK-12). We recommend a working knowledge of the Newcomer Toolkit, research based strategies to support newcomers, CCSS, the CA ELD Standards, and CA ELA/ELD Framework. Applicants must be familiar and able to use technology to access and create various El reports. Strong oral and written communication skills are necessary. It is desirable for applicants to have experience in collaborative planning (PLCs), differentiated professional development, and delivery of classroom instruction. This position requires the applicant to travel to sites, professional development locations, workshops, and meetings. Fluency in more than one language is preferred.
