Job Summary:

This is a district position that supports migrant children (age 0 - 21) and their families. This position also tends to records and reports for grant compliance. The main categories of roles include: records clerk, recruiter, graduation specialist, and student advocate.

Required Qualifications:
  • Ability to relate and work with children of all ages
  • Ability to work with other staff members and parents/guardians
  • Maintain confidentiality
  • High school diploma or GED and AA Degree, 72 quarter credits (100 level or above) or have passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment
  • Demonstrated ability to read, write, and speak fluent English and Spanish
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and follow timelines
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, parents, staff, outside agencies, and the general public
  • Possession and maintenance of a valid Washington State driver's license and reliable transportation for building meetings and home visitations.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience and training working with migrant children
  • Experience working with students who are learning English
  • Completed paraeducator Fundamental Course of Study
  • Ability to read, write, and speak Spanish

Essential Functions (may include, but not limited to):
  • Identify the barriers including educational disruption, cultural and language barriers, social isolation, various health related problems, or other factors that inhibit the ability of selected migrant students to meet state academic and achievement standards
  • Coordinate access to services available through the school district and/or community to reduce or eliminate barriers and strengthen communication, self- advocacy and leadership skills.
  • Work with school counselors, teachers and other appropriate staff to develop a roster of migrant students most at-risk and then monitor attendance, discipline, credits and other social/academic issues that impact the student's ability to successfully transition to the next grade.
  • Conduct home visits in coordination with counselors, teachers or administrators to strengthen home-school connections and student engagement.
  • Actively identify and recruit all eligible migrant children residing in the school district, ages 0-21.
  • Share with migrant parents and students information regarding the Migrant Education Program, as well as all school services/programs available to them including graduation requirements and their right to an equitable and rigorous education. Refer families to appropriate health, social or legal services to meet the needs of the student's participation in school.
  • Enroll/withdraw students into the Migrant Student Information System (MSIS) as needed to maintain updated files.
  • Work with teachers, counselors, school nurses and secretaries to ensure migrant children are identified and all educational and health records are collected and entered.

Salary: $19.15-$25.74 hourly, Depending on experience and qualifications

$.50 per hour additional for employees with an Associate of Arts degree or higher

$.50 per hour additional for employees who fluently speak, write, and read Spanish

Work schedule: Seven (7) hours per day - 192 days per year including 11 holidays

Benefits: 11 paid holidays; 11 sick leave days; 3 personal leave days; health insurance through SEBB including medical, dental, vision, life insurance, and long-term disability insurance, State retirement through DRS ; other fringe benefits as allowed in the Part-Time Teamsters Collective Bargaining Agreement .
