The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD ("The HARRIS CENTER") is looking for a Certified Medical Assistant to join our team, Under the direct supervision of a physician or physician assistant, the Certified Medical Assistant will perform medical procedures and tests, maintain patient records, explain common medical procedures to patients, and assist with basic examinations.

As the largest behavioral and developmental disability care center in Texas, The HARRIS CENTER provided care to over 79,000 people in fiscal year 2019 and has an annual budget of over $275 million.
As part of its mission to transform the lives of people with behavioral health and IDD needs in the third largest county in the United States, The HARRIS CENTER provides a full continuum of services at 86 different sites across Harris County. In addition, services are provided in more than 42 different languages as well as sign language in order to better serve what is one of the most diverse and multi-cultural communities in the nation.
By utilizing the unique expertise of its more than 2,300 employees, The HARRIS CENTER is committed to meeting the behavioral health and IDD needs of Harris County residents and giving them hope to live to their fullest potential.
What you will do:
- Perform medical procedures and tests under the direct supervision of a physician or physician assistant.
- Assist physician with exams and tests
- Measure and record vital signs, including:
- Blood pressure
- Pulse
- Temperature
- Weight
- Height
- Interview patients
- Instruct patients on medication administration, diet, exercise, and other physician-directed orders .
- Keep accurate patient records and ensure that all related reports, information, and lab results are organized and filed with patient records.
- Keep exam rooms stocked with adequate medical supplies and instruments.
- Prepare examination rooms between patients.
- Sterilize medical instruments after each patient
- Answer calls from patients, physicians, and pharmacies and take appropriate action.
- Call-In prescriptions and prescription refills daily.
- Maintain accurate logs of office supplies and equipment
What qualifications you will need:
Education:
- High School Diploma or General Education diploma.
Experience:
- 1 years experience required.
Other Key Qualifications:
- Certifications as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of the healthcare field, the medical specialty of the office or center in which they work, and medical terminology.
- Must also have exceptional people skills; good grammar and spelling; excellent phone etiquette; a high degree of professionalism; and advanced organizational skills, including the ability to multi-task.
