Description
The Certified Surgical Assistant assists other members of the health care team in the delivery of patient care during the intra-operative period. The major focus for the position is on preparation and handling of instrumentation and surgical equipment and assisting the surgeon within the limits of their scope of practice during the surgical procedure. Is directed by the Perioperative RN. Is familiar with equipment and handles with the proper care. Administers care and use of equipment applicable to the age and needs of the patient population served (neonate through geriatric).
This position is eligible for a $10000 sign on bonus, which incurs a 2 year commitment to remain in the position.
Qualifications
Graduate of a school of surgical technology and certification as a Surgical Technologist is required. CPR certification required. One year of operating room experience is preferred along with knowledge of specific procedures or specialties. The incumbent must be capable of prioritizing, planning and problem solving due to changing nature of the work situation during surgical procedures and must possess ability to recognize the need for immediate response during urgent or emergency situations. The incumbent must also possess excellent professional communication skills in dealing with patients/families, medical staff, peers and ancillary staff. The incumbent must provide attention to detail and accuracy; he or she is responsible for maintaining confidentiality of material and information.
