Job Description

Purpose of Position:

The chaplain will under the direction of the Pastoral Care Director provide a full range of ministry services to assist in meting the religious, spiritual and emotional needs of patients, families and associates.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Provide spiritual care and support for patients, families and staff on assigned units.

Provide prayer, support and comfort especially to the dying patient and his /her family.

Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to provide appropriate spiritual/ emotional support to persons of diverse cultural and ethnic backgrounds, religions and various age groups.

Counsels individuals and families on personal, ethical and spiritual problems and appropriately documents patient care-related information in accordance with Spiritual Care Department and NYC H+H policies and procedures.

Document in patient's medical record with appropriate intervention and plan of care.

Provide bereavement services as needed, including memorial services, funeral services etc.

Provide for the worship/sacramental /liturgical needs of patients and staff.

Support staff especially in times of crisis, conflict, loss, and /or need for debriefing. Assess the emotional /spiritual needs of patents and families.

This position is generally Mondays-Friday with overnight, and holiday coverage.

Minimum Qualifications
1. Completion of at least one unit of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE).

Special Note:

The maximum duration of assignment as a Chaplain-in-Training is one (1) year.
