What You'll Do
  • Support strategic facility planning
  • Provide project management for space renovations and other projects
  • Collaborate with faculty and researchers on infrastructure needs for laboratory renovations and equipment purchases
  • Participate as staff lead on the department safety committee and play a lead role in creating and maintaining a safe working environment
  • Work closely with faculty, staff, and external stakeholders to maintain a safe, efficient, and conducive environment for research and teaching
  • Overall space and facilities management of all Chemical Engineering space over multiple locations and in various buildings

Required Qualifications*
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
  • Five or more years of experience in complex facility management, preferably in an academic or research setting.
  • Strong knowledge of laboratory safety regulations, codes, and best practices.
  • Excellent project management skills, with the ability to lead and prioritize multiple initiatives.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate with various stakeholders.
  • Proficient in using facility management software and tools.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines while managing and prioritizing multiple projects in a fast-paced and often changing environment
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, self-starter, and ability to effectively work with a diverse group of faculty, students, and staff.
  • Proven track record of positive relationship building with stakeholders at all levels
  • Demonstrated commitment to supporting an organizational culture that is diverse, equitable, and inclusive
  • Demonstrated ability to exercise discretion in handling confidential materials

Desired Qualifications*
  • Advanced knowledge of and experience with University systems and processes
  • Experience working with university central offices, such as Plant, EHS, and AEC
  • Training or direct experience with safety response and coordination.
  • Understanding of research protocols and regulating bodies, such as Environmental Health and Safety (EHS), State of Michigan Bureau of Fire Safety (BFS), and the Americans with Disabilities Act.

This position may be underfilled at a lower classification of Facilities Coordinator/Manager, depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
