Title: Chemistry Teacher (High School)

License: Grade 8-12 Chemistry License

Job Description:

This position is responsible for teaching 5 sections of science courses, typically Grade 10 chemistry and can include an elective.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate knowledge of subject areas as outlined in the MA Frameworks
  • Constantly monitor the safety and well-being of students, particularly when students are participating in a hands-on activity using tools and lab equipment
  • Provide students with opportunities to become technologically competent
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and communicate these objectives to students
  • Use informal and formal assessments to identify strengths and weaknesses
  • Appreciate cultural diversity and the importance of communications skills reflecting sensitivity to the feelings of all persons
  • Prepare lessons that reflect adaptation for individual student differences
  • Help students set achievement expectations and evaluate their progress
  • Administer appropriate assessments to measure progress and use the resulting data to inform instruction
  • Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other required documentation
  • Communicate, including electronically, student progress and development to parents
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings
  • Participate in professional growth opportunities
  • Participate in continuous refinement of the instructional program and the overall learning environment
  • Use preparation/planning time to include participating as a team member in the continuous improvement process
  • Carry out the school's disciplinary code and procedures in a fair and just manner
  • Any other relative duties or responsibilities as requested by the Building Principal and/or Program Administrator consistent with the BEA Contract
  • Collaborate with colleagues to improve curriculum and instructional effectiveness for all students

  • Stamina for 8 hours of student instruction and supervision
  • Must be able to safely lift and/or move equipment and supplies as needed in the course of classroom instruction
