Job Description

PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

Under direction of the Executive Director, exercises wide latitude of independent judgment and initiative in supervision of overall administration and management. Serves as Deputy to the Executive Director and assumes full responsibility and authority in areas delegated. May direct a group of services.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILLITIES:
  • Serves as Executive Director in the latter's absence.
  • Participates in the planning, development and promulgation of programs, policies and procedures, and evaluative and monitoring techniques designed to implement the policies and achieve the goals established by the governing body and the President.
  • Supervises the implementation of Corporate programs and policies concerning health care facility operations and assists in coordinating activities between facility staff and Corporate officers.
  • May direct a compliance program for the health care facility in meeting standards established by inspecting and accreditation agencies involving delivery of health care services.
  • Participates in the selection and appointment process of department heads and establishment of organizational structures. Participates in the establishment of formal systems of financial procedures, qualifications for employment and retention of competent personnel, employee health programs and general administrative support services.
  • Assists in the development and monitoring activities of the annual budget.
  • Recommends purchase of supplies and equipment for the health care facility consistent with policies governing purchase procedures.
  • Recommends construction and alteration programs, including acquisition and replacement of facility equipment.
  • Schedules and conducts and/or participates in regular interdepartmental and departmental meetings. May designate hospital departmental representatives for medical staff and multi-disciplinary committees to facilitate effective communication lines within the hospital.
  • Assists the Executive Director in maintaining cooperative relationships with community, professional groups, external agencies and regulatory bodies.
  • Participates in the development, maintenance and implementation of a hospital management reporting system that provides adequate and timely data for program planning and evaluation purposes.
  • Assists in conducting contract negotiations with affiliates and related groups.


Minimum Qualifications
1. A Masters Degree from an accredited college or university with a specialization in Hospital Administration, Business Administration, Public Health, Hospital Health Care, Medical Administration or a related program; and,
2. Six years of full-time, paid experience in high-level responsible business administration, human resources administration, public administration or an equivalent field, or as an Assistant Hospital Administrator in a position of direct responsibility for total operations or major parts thereof in a hospital setting including substantial exposure in meeting community needs; or,
3. A satisfactory equivalent combination of education, experience and training; and,
4. Extensive working knowledge of hospital administration, medical procedures, laws and regulations pertaining to hospital operations with special reference to accreditation procedures.
