The United States Space Force (USSF) Space Systems Command (SSC) at Vandenberg Space Force Base is searching for a Chief, Space Launch Delta 30 Protocol Officer (NH-0301-03, GS 12/13 Equivalent).

Description:

Space Launch Delta (SLD) 30 commands the Western Spaceport and Test Range performing Department of Defense (DoD), civil, national security, and commercial space launch along with missile and aeronautical tests. SLD 30 provides host installation services to DoD, other government agencies, international allies, and commercial customers. SLD 30 is modernizing its capacity, agility, responsiveness, and resilience in all mission areas to deliver a Spaceport of the Future. We need a collaborative, proactive, and engaging leader to help make all of this happen. We need fresh perspectives to get after new and innovative solutions to our toughest obstacles. The SLD 30 Chief of Protocol is responsible for supervisory management of the SLD 30 Protocol Office civilians and military personnel and procedures supporting all Distinguished Visitors (DVs) to Vandenberg Space Force Base enabling spaceport and test range operations, installation support to mission partners, and improved quality of life for mission readiness.

The position will exercise procedural authorities of the SLD 30 Protocol Office to include:
  • Provides policy, long-range planning and procedural guidance for the SLD 30 Protocol Program.
  • Administers and oversees programs for Distinguished Visitors (DV)s and develops detailed plans and procedures relative to VIP visits to Vandenberg SFB.
  • Manages and executes protocol funds and directs the administration of contingency, morale, and welfare funds.
  • Prepares and conducts protocol training through training sessions to representatives of serviced and tenant organizations.

Ideal Candidate:

  • Forward-thinking, solution oriented, agile, team player, proactive, analytical skills, and great interpersonal skills
  • Bachelor's degree in any field is desired
  • Currently have or able to obtain a Secret clearance
  • Protocol experience at Wing or Delta level
  • AcqDemo personnel related experience


Key Skills and Abilities:

1. Expert knowledge of methods, practices, and techniques of protocol to enable the incumbent to function as technical authority to develop and execute protocol requirements.

2. Knowledge of national and international protocol in order to plan and conduct itineraries for visits by distinguished visitors (DVs).

3. Knowledge of headquarters, FLDCOM/MAJCOM, and base: organizations sufficient to plan and coordinate visits and itineraries.

4. Skill in planning and directing the details of all formal visits of high-ranking dignitaries both from within the Federal government and internationally.

5. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, in order to gain cooperation from others through tact, courtesy, and diplomacy; negotiate complex issues?? and maintain good working relationships.

6. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.

7. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of the protocol office, and to negotiate effectively with management to accept and implement recommendations.

8. Ability to manage expenditures within funding and program guidelines.

  • This position is on-site and not eligible for remote or telework.
  • This position has been designated for drug testing. Incumbent is subject to random urinalysis testing as a condition of employment.
  • Employee must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid vehicle operator license.
  • Travel by military/commercial aircraft may be required.
  • Incumbent frequently may be required to work irregular duty hours, e.g. nights/weekends, extended duty hours beyond normal duty hours.
  • Outside activities may be performed at co-located club, launch facilities, ceremony sites, flight line, DV quarters, and other facilities in the local area as required.
  • PCS and relocation funding are available.
