Child Care Aide

The childcare employee ensures the safety of children by providing a safe loving environment for children to learn and grow, creating a warm, loving atmosphere, where each child feels accepted and appreciated. Teachers are responsible for the day-today activities that go on in the classroom. A working knowledge of the Minimum Standards and Guidelines for childcare from the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services and pre-service requirements must be met before taking charge of a group of children.

Childcare aides report directly to the childcare center director.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Major Responsibilities and Duties:

Business Services

• Ensures the safety of children
• Create lesson plans specific to the age of assigned class as required by state guidelines
• Provide a wide variety of learning experiences for children.
• Secure all materials and supplies for the daily use of the group.
• Plan/follow a daily schedule
• Serve morning and afternoon snacks.
• Serve/assist at mealtimes.
• Supervise restroom use and assist children as needed with personal hygiene.
• Supervise rest times.
• Perform light housekeeping duties, keeping the room and materials clean and neat. (clean, sanitize and disinfect toys, tables and materials)
• Plan a daily schedule.
• Share observations of children with parents.
• Any other duties assigned by the Child Care Center Director.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Mentor high school interns/volunteers

Equipment Used:

• iPad
• Any adaptive equipment required by a child in care.

Working Conditions:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Prolonged standing.
• Must be able to sit on the floor.
• Lifting up to 30 lbs.

EXPERIENCE:

Working in a licensed childcare center is preferred, otherwise 24 hours of preservice training is required. Eight hours must be met before being counted in the caregiver ratio.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience as required by the State of Texas

Education/Certification:

• High School Diploma/GED
• Some college hours preferred
• At least 18 years old

Special Knowledge/Skills:

• Ability to work well with children and adults
• CPR and First aid certified (adult and child)
