POSITION TITLE: Child Nutrition Program Coordinator/Director

JOB GOAL: Direct and supervise school system's Child Nutrition Program (CNP)

REPORTS TO: Chief School Financial Officer (CSFO)

EVALUATION: Cullman City Schools' Support Personnel Evaluation Plan

FLSA: Exempt

COMPENSATION RANGE: $63,682 - $117,656 (depending on education and experience)

CONTRACT DAYS/MONTHS: 240/12

QUALIFICATIONS: One of the following must be met:
  1. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution, with an academic major in food and
    nutrition, food service management, dietetics, family and consumer sciences, nutrition education,
    culinary arts, business, food science, community nutrition and marketing, hospitality
    management, or a related field.
  2. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in any academic major and one of the
    following:
    a. An Alabama recognized certificate from another state.
    b. The School Nutrition Specialist (SNS) credential from the School Nutrition Association.
  3. Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution in any academic major and at least five
    years of experience in the management of school nutrition programs.

Temporary Exception for Hiring CNP Directors :
ALSDE Director of CNP may approve a request from a local school district to employ an
individual as a CNP Director for up to three years from the date of employment who does
not meet any option above but meets one of the • options below:
1. Holds at least an earned associate's degree from an accredited institution;
has two years of institutional food service work experience; completes
State-approved training for new CNP Directors; and earns the SNS
Credential from the School Nutrition Association within three years of
the date of employment. Individuals must meet degree and specific
coursework requirements prior to taking the SNS Credentialing Exam.
2. Holds at least an earned bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited
institution; completes State-approved training for new CNP Directors;
and earns the SNS Credential from the School Nutrition Association
within three years of the date of employment. Individuals must meet
degree and specific coursework requirements prior to taking the SNS
Credentialing Exam.

CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENT:

Have or obtain an Alabama Professional Child Nutrition Program Director Certificate issued by
the Teacher Certification section of the ALSDE

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Coordinates the school food service program to include the daily operations, the purchase of food, supplies and equipment
2. Report to CSFO and secure advice relating to all major problems, plans, programs and progress
3. Implements applicable federal and state regulations and board policies as they relate to the CNP
4. Assist CSFO in planning and submitting proposed budget for CNP
5. Approve free and reduced-price meal applications and verify their accuracy
6. Establishes and directs the procedures to ensure that all reporting requirements are met including the USDA guidelines for meal eligibility and reimbursement of federal funds
7. Ensures the CNP is in compliance with the USDA standards and meets the requirements for the mandated nutritional and dietary requirements of the National School Lunch, Breakfast and After School Snack Programs
8. Ensure production records and work schedules are planned and completed properly
9. Establish a centralized equipment replacement and maintenance program for all schools. This includes routine inspections, preparation of bids, scheduling of maintenance and routine disposition of dated equipment
10. Conduct a formal review of each school and complete the USDA review form which covers all aspects of CNP
11. Check, approve and compile records from each cafeteria concerning meal counts, inventory, purchases and food production
12. Ensure that a board approved wellness policy and HACCP plan are in place for each site
13. Plan in-service training programs, personnel conferences and regular meetings
14. Participate in professional growth activities by attending local, state and national meetings
15. Cooperates with other school personnel and educational agencies in conducting program evaluations and reporting activities of the Child Nutrition Program
16. Assists local school managers in menu planning, food storage preparation and food service
17. Develops specifications for equipment purchases and works with the purchasing agent for equipment, food and other purchases in compliance with federal and state bid laws and purchasing requirements
18. Provides leadership and supervision over assigned personnel ensuring employees have a clear understanding of their job responsibilities
19. Plans and directs training for all CNP personnel in the school system
20. Oversees the reporting and distributing of USDA commodities
21. Assists with year-end close procedures overseeing physical as well as perpetual inventories
22. Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication.
23. Attends all meetings as required by administration
24. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
25. Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and ethics, working cooperatively with the administration, personnel, parents and students

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Ability to work 8.0 hour day and additional time as required
2. Knowledge of federal, state and local mandates
3. Knowledge of the requirements for purchasing and rotating equipment
4. Working knowledge of accounting as it relates to CNP
5. Knowledge of Food Guide preparation and food regulations
6. Ability to select the appropriate equipment for schools
7. Ability to determine when equipment should be replaced 8. Skills in management and supervising subordinate employees
9. Skills in personnel including staffing and employment
10. Knowledge of nutrition standards and analysis as required by state and federal regulations
11. Knowledge of safety standards and regulations
12. Knowledge of HACCP and other federal requirements relating to CNP
13. Ability to drive an automobile
14. Skilled in oral and written communication and interpersonal interaction
15. Complete assigned work tasks with a positive attitude
16. Ability to provide leadership for a significant diversity of individuals and/or groups and perform work task effectively
17. Qualified to meet the Alabama State Department of Education requirements for Child Nutrition Program Director Profession Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS TO PERFORM ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Stand and walk 25% of work shift
2. Sit 50% of work shift
3. Bend, tum, twist, kneel, balance and reach on an occasional basis
4. Strength, mobility, agility and visual and aural acuity, to visit work sites, supervise employees, present food demonstrations and perform all other tasks the job requires
