Job Goal

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Supervises day-to-day CNP operations at an assigned school kitchen for the purpose of providing safe, efficient, and high quality food services consistent with mandated nutritional and dietary requirements and goals, policies, and guidelines established by district and state and federal CNP regulations.
  • Adheres to USDA standards, including but not limited to the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act, and mandated nutritional and dietary requirements of the National School Lunch Program, the Child and Adult Care Food Program, and the Summer Food Service Program, as well as applicable federal and state regulations, school system rules, administrative procedures, and local Board
  • Supervises School CNP Leads and CNP Workers and provides leadership through promoting understanding of school kitchen procedures, resolving issues, and ensuring high quality school food services that increase efficiency and meet the needs of HCS students, staff, faculty, and others in keeping with established policies and regulations.
  • Ensures sufficient coverage within the kitchen for each work shift by coordinating work schedules, ensuring appropriate training and orientation, assigning duties, prioritizing workloads, and overseeing work activities for the purpose of ensuring assignments are completed in a timely manner.
  • Performs daily opening and closing procedures for assigned school kitchen, including opening/closing gates and doors, turning on/off equipment, alarms, and lights, checking cooler temperatures, , for the purpose of ensuring facilities are properly prepared for daily operations.
  • Receives, inspects, verifies, and properly stores all incoming USDA commodities in assigned school kitchen for the purpose of ensuring availability of items and complying with mandated health standards and USDA commodities regulations; reports discrepancies and quality issues and works with other department staff to resolve situations as appropriate.
  • Monitors inventory of assigned school kitchen on a daily basis to ensure up-to-date, adequate supply and availability.
  • Communicates effectively with HCS staff, faculty, students, parents, and others for the purpose of providing information regarding CNP programs and services.
  • Provides support and input to the CNP Coordinator and other department staff as needed in the implementation and enforcement of department policies and procedures regarding nutrition, sanitation and safety, food preparation and service, and kitchen equipment operation.
  • Prepares and reviews various reports and program data, including menus, financial summaries, inventory lists, production summaries, personnel documentation, and other reports, for the purpose of recording activities and providing reliable and up-to-date information to department heads and district leadership as required and/or requested.
  • Receives, reconciles, and records all daily deposit monies and makes bank deposits for assigned school

  • Participates in a variety of approved trainings, activities, and events, including in-service programs, seminars, conferences, workshops, etc. to address professional learning needs.
  • May perform functions as required of another position such as serving/storing food, cooking meals, baking goods, cashier, for the purpose of providing overall coverage of food service operations.
  • Provides leadership and supervision over assigned personnel to ensure employees have a clear understanding of their job responsibilities.
  • Selects personnel and conducts performance appraisals on assigned employees and makes recommendations for appropriate employment action to ensure a standard of accountability is met as defined by the department's goals and objectives, as well as the policies established by the Huntsville City School System.
  • Provides and ensures employees' participation in professional developmental training opportunities as needed to perform their job duties.
  • Responsible for developing, maintaining, and improving operating procedures to improve efficiency and effective use of school resources.

Qualifications

A high school diploma and three (3) years of experience in a food service and one (1) year of supervisory experience or three (3) years of Child Nutrition experience. Must also obtain and maintain a ServSafe training certificate. Must also possess a valid Alabama driver's license.

Physical Requirements

Requires exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds constantly.

Terms of Employment

Nine month year. Salary as recommended by the Superintendent and approved by the Board.
