JOB DESCRIPTION:
Teacher of Vocal Music
DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:
  1. Teachers will teach full choir classes in grades 9-12.
  2. Required activities for the year will include: TMEA All Region Choir Auditions, TMEA All State participation, UIL Concert and Sight-reading Contest and UIL Solo and Ensemble Contest.
  3. Teachers will have concert programs each in the Fall and Spring Semester.
  4. Teachers will attend all activities in which their students participate.
  5. Teachers will attend all TMEA/UIL region meetings in the Fall and Spring and will become active in as many region activities as appropriate.
  6. Teachers will provide regular opportunities for individual and small group instruction outside the school day (i.e., weekly sectionals, master classes, individual help sessions on auditions, solo/ensemble preparation.)
  7. Teachers will attend all extra sectionals, rehearsals, concerts, etc. required of their students, due to participation in All region and All State Choir, etc. or provide a qualified substitute.
  8. Teachers will interact with the Intermediate School and Junior High School Choir/Music staff as part of a continual program.
  9. The High School Choir Director will act as instructional leader for the feeder program.
  10. Teachers will be responsible for the organizational requirements of the program.
  11. Regular attendance.
  12. Maintain confidentiality.
  13. Teachers will perform other duties as assigned.

ASSIGNMENTS TO VIRTUAL INSTRUCTION:
  1. Seamlessly integrate District-approved online learning platforms and required software into the planning, delivery, and support of virtual instruction.
  2. Plan, prepare, implement, and evaluate lessons and activities during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  3. Be able to communicate with students, parents, and campus and District personnel during the standard work hours of the campus at which the teacher is assigned, as well as prolonged or irregular hours.
  4. Adhere to all professional responsibilities and deadlines including professional communication and responsiveness.
  5. Be flexible, responsive, and positive with students, parents, and staff.
  6. Effectively translate CISD Best Practices into the virtual instructional setting.
  7. Regularly attend and apply District-approved professional development in the most up-to-date practices associated with virtual instruction.
  8. Accurately and timely obtain and report required student data, including attendance, grades, etc.
  9. Dress professionally as you would if you were offering instruction to students in a traditional, in-person setting.
  10. Teach and interact with students from a quiet space, free from distraction, where appropriate confidentiality rules can be followed.
  11. Create a virtual classroom environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  12. Provide small group and tutoring opportunities for students who are experiencing difficulty in their learning.
  13. Support any extracurricular activities for which you are responsible according to District guidelines.
  14. Attend all required campus and District meetings.
EXPERIENCE:

  • Applicants must demonstrate a proficiency in all areas of vocal music- vocal styles, choral techniques, and sight-reading.

  • Applicants should have extensive experience in solo work as well as in small and large ensemble performance situations.

  • Applicants must have experience with chamber choir and "show" choir.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
  • Bachelor of Music Education
  • Certification requirements; Music-All Level

Special Knowledge/Skills:
  • Applicants for all grades should have adequate keyboard skills.
  • Applicants for all grades must demonstrate proficiency with vocal skills.
