Why does the job exist?

The Classification Officer Supervisor is responsible for oversight and supervision of Classification Officers for the Youth Diagnostic and Development Center.

How does it get done?

This area ensures development, monitoring, and consistency across the unit multidisciplinary team in regard to MDT/PRD/Supervise release processes. This includes and involves multi-agency collaboration. The classification officer supervisor is responsible for fostering an environment where support staff can thrive and be successful in improving the lives of CYFD clients.

Who are the customers?

Adjudicated juvenile clients.

Ideal Candidate

Skilled in the following areas:
• Supervising mentoring, training and developing junior staff;

• Completing and conducting employee performance evaluations;

• Facilitating meetings, delegating work assignments;

• Report writing and documentation;

• Experience in working with juvenile offenders;

• Extensive FACTS experience.

Minimum Qualification

Bachelor's degree in psychology, guidance and counseling, penology, sociology, social work, or criminology and two (2) years of experience in a correctional setting, military duty, classroom teaching or instructing in a rehabilitative environment, supervising planned recreational activities or active participation in community action programs, or for Correctional Officer Specialist positions, relevant work experience as it relates to the purpose of the position. Employment Requirements

Completion of the hiring process is contingent upon successful completion of pre-employment screening process. This position is designated a safety sensitive. Employment is subject to pre-employment and random testing, in accordance with all terms and conditions of federal and state law, rules and regulations in relation to alcohol and/or drug testing. Employment requires successful completion of post offer pre-employment physical. Pre-employment criminal background check is required and conditional pending results.

Working Conditions

Potential risk from juvenile actions; this job could require running, lifting and possible physical intervention. Incumbents must be willing to accept changes in geographic assignment and be willing to work shifts, overtime, holidays, weekends and call back for emergencies. Incumbents must have a telephone and be willing to give the phone number to the supervisor. Some statewide travel may be required. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License.
