GENERAL SUMMARY: The Clerk IV performs receptionist and clerk duties in the department. Functions as the central communication source for the department process. Maintains and organizes paper related to patient care and medical record supplies, distributes mail and information to staff, physicians and patients. Transcribes both manually and into the computer patient and unit information. Directs both written and verbal communication to appropriate people. Zerox projects for staff and physicians. Answers the telephone and call system. Responsible for the timely, accurate and clear transfer of communications including physician orders. Develops and maintains harmonious, customer friendly environment. Monitors unit cameras and individuals entering and leaving the unit.QUALIFICATIONS:Education/Skills Required:1.Must take Medical Terminology Exam and pass if no previous Unit Clerk experience.2.High school graduate and ability to read, write and comprehend medical terminology and willingness to use positive communication skills.3.Previous experience in clerical or receptionist position desired; hospital experience or satisfactory completion of training program preferred.4.Able to perform detailed assignments, work under pressure, and relate to patients, hospital staff, physicians, and visitors. Demonstrates ability to prioritize and complete multiple job responsibilities in a timely manner.5.Competent in use of language when communicating via telephone.6.Able to perform computer skills following appropriate training on hospital information system.7.Meets requirement for pre-employment screening and physical exam.8.Ability to work independently under stressful conditions and handle calmly and positively multiple interruptions.9.Mental Health experience preferred.10.Provides documentation within first 30 days of employment indicating no evidence of child abuse or maltreatment through New York Central Registry.11.Must have current CPR or obtain within six (6) months of employment.As applicable, the individual has training/competency in attending to the special needs and/or behaviors appropriate to the age of the patients for which care is being provided.
