Description and Requirements

The Climate Data & Analytics Lead is responsible for an array of efforts related to the successful management, execution and reporting of MetLife’s global sustainability goals and commitments. The position sits within the Global Sustainability Function, reporting to the Vice President, Global Sustainability and Climate Lead. The role will help drive successful implementation of MetLife’s sustainability strategies, programs and goals worldwide and includes working across geographies, serving on cross-functional teams, coordinating with an array of functions, markets and business units, and acting as point-person with key external entities.

In support of MetLife’s carbon footprint management strategy, implementation of Net Zero Commitments, sustainability reporting and other climate efforts, the primary responsibility for the role is to lead greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions management, calculations and disclosures - serving as primary point of contact with key internal and external stakeholders, and working across the global organization to drive GHG emissions accounting best practices. In this capacity, the incumbent will work closely with functional units such as Corporate Real Estate, Procurement, Finance, Internal Audit, Legal, Investments, and the markets.

In addition, the role will support broader sustainability efforts across the Global Sustainability Function.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead management, tracking, and reporting of GHG emissions and other environmental metrics on behalf of MetLife globally.

o Collect and report on corporate GHG emissions in accordance with World Resource Institute’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol; support building company subject matter expertise on GHG emissions accounting

o Coordinate collection of all corporate-level data (building energy use, business travel, waste, fleets, purchased goods, etc.) to support scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG calculations along with other sustainability KPI analysis and reporting

o Analyze and calculate sustainability metrics, such as waste data, water data, business travel emissions by country/region for various external reports and disclosures

o Support company goal achievement and annual reporting requirements by calculating metrics - summarizing results, observations, projections and trends - regularly in various formats (Excel, PowerPoint, internal dashboards, etc.)

• Oversee current software and GHG inventory management processes in support of MetLife’s ongoing calculation processes and reporting requirements

o Maintain and customize GHG management software system for ease of reporting and tracking various metrics (e.g., electricity per sq ft, electricity per employee, waste diversion by building, etc.)

o Work with Corporate Real Estate, Procurement and other internal/external stakeholders (ex. employees, contractors, vendors/suppliers, etc.) to drive data collection globally

o On-board new users into the GHG emissions management system, including hosting trainings on request, providing training materials, troubleshooting access and assisting with system navigation (~100 users)

o Contribute to the development of new processes, reports, and technology integration to improve reporting efficiency and efficacy (e.g., creating new reporting templates, new dashboards, evaluation and implementation of new technology, etc.)

o Maintain internal documentation around decisions, analysis, and processes including management of MetLife’s GHG Inventory Management Plan and creating annual updates that correspond to the reporting year’s completed calculations

• Serve as liaison to MetLife’s third-party annual verification provider, providing additional data (emission factors, calculations, emissions reduction projects, documentation, etc.) and managing the process

• Prepare data for MetLife’s annual Sustainability Report, CDP Climate Change response, regulatory responses and other external disclosures

• Partner with key stakeholders including Finance, Global Technology & Operations, and others to enhance current procedures, controls and systems

• Collaborate with external GHG emissions experts and third-party partners to identify and implement sustainability and climate strategy best practices

• Work in close partnership with ESG Financial Controller and global colleagues to ensure that sustainability content, processes and disclosures have appropriate levels of governance and controls in preparation for the financial and regulatory reporting environment.

• Drive efforts to augment/enhance MetLife publicly available sustainability information and data

• Support the full array of efforts driven by the Global Sustainability Function including:

o Advance internal initiatives in support of MetLife’s Net Zero Commitment including strategy development, program management and decarbonization planning

o Increase associate involvement in MetLife’s environmental sustainability programs and drive progress on company climate initiatives

o Implementation and advancement of corporate sustainability best practices

Essential Business Experience and Technical Skills:

Required:

• Minimum of 5 years of experience on sustainability, environmental, climate, carbon footprint management CSR, ESG, Data Analysis, Consulting and/or Audit background.

• Bachelor’s Degree; preference given to degrees in ESG, Sustainability, Sustainable Business, Sustainable Development, Environmental Science, or related field.

• Strong knowledge of sustainability standards, tools, and reporting mechanisms (ex. GHG Protocol, PCAF, SBTI, CDP, GRI, SASB, etc.), and emerging practices.

• Strong knowledge of climate change, environmental, conservation and sustainability trends.

• Analytical background and strong interest in data management, IT, API, software management, data imports and metrics reporting.

• Strong knowledge of emerging climate reporting regulations including CSRD, SEC, ISSB, market-level regulations.

• Ability to drive governance best practices, while working independently to enhance controls in place

• Strong analytical skills, data-driven and capable of managing large data sets to track, measure and identify trends along with business improvement solutions.

• Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and outstanding relationship building skills at all levels of the organization.

• Exceptional project management skills, attention to detail.

• Experience implementing environmental sustainability programs and stakeholder engagement initiatives

• Strong knowledge of Excel and Power BI to identify key trends in the data, communicate progress on goals across the organization, and develop the strategy based on key findings.

• Strong presentation and facilitation skills - written, oral, PowerPoint/Visual.

• Strong ability to collaborate across the organization and drive a shared agenda that recognizes and supports business needs.

The salary range for applicants for this position is $86,200 - $114,900.
