Hennepin Healthcare is hiring for our Rheumatology Clinic in downtown Minneapolis. This day shift role can be filled at the one of these levels: Clinical Associate (1.0 FTE), Medical Assistant (1.0 FTE), or Licensed Practical Nurse (0.9 FTE; 4-5 days/week, 8 hour shifts).

This is a benefit-eligible role and is union represented. Opportunities for tuition reimbursement and advancement.

This position is currently Monday-Friday day hours but may expand to include evenings and weekends as we grow.

A sign-on bonus is available for eligible external MA or LPN candidates (current employees and former employees returning to HHS within one year are ineligible). The sign-on bonus amount is $1,500 for uncertified Medical Assistants and $3,000 for LPNs and Medical Assistants certified/registered through the AAMA, AMT, or NHA.

SUMMARY

Clinical Associate - Under the direction, delegation, and supervision of a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP), Manager/ Clinic Nurse Supervisor, charge nurse, and/or their delegates, the Clinical Associate performs basic direct patient care tasks and clinic support functions.

Medical Assistant - Under the direction/ delegation of a physician(s) or other clinical care team members, the Medical Assistant contributes to the health and well-being of patients by providing quality and competent patient & family centered care/ services that meet HCMC and departmental standards.

Licensed Practical Nurse - With the context of the Hennepin County Medical Center Relationship-Based Care Practice Model, under the direction of providers and/or the registered nurse, the Licensed Practical Nurse assists providers in the delivery of care and performs nursing functions within the LPN scope of practice.

RESPONSIBILITIES - Clinical Associate
  • Rooms patients and obtains and documents vital signs, weight, height, head circumference (infants), and hearing and vision screenings
  • Prepares exam rooms for patients and sets up rooms for basic procedures
  • Cleans and/or sterilizes equipment to support infection control and OSHA standards
  • Stocks and organizes clinic supplies
  • Transports patients to and from tests
  • Assists patients to transportation as needed
  • Communicates observations and measurements outside of norm to RN or provider
  • Labels and delivers tissue and fluid samples
  • Initiates emergency response for medical emergencies and safety risks
  • Performs point of care testing, such as glucometer testing
  • Assists families with screening forms, such as developmental screen
  • Answers the phones, performs data entry, and greets patients
  • Simple appointment scheduling and limited registration tasks
  • Runs reports
  • Supports population health activities if appropriate, which may include outreach calls or care coordination
  • Other duties as assigned
RESPONSIBILITIES - Medical Assistant
  • Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a physician or other providers including: administer medications, injections, and immunizations, spirometry, tympanometry, apply minor dressings and splints, connect patients to portable monitors e.g. pulse oximetry, nebulization, glucose monitoring, and urethral catheterization and other clinical duties as delegated within the Medical Assistant scope of practice
  • Set up for and provide direct assistance to physicians and other licensed care providers with medical examinations and procedures including: colposcopy, flex sigmoidoscopy, minor surgery
  • Perform specimen collection including: blood draws, sputum samples and urine samples.
  • Perform hearing and vision screens and developmental testing
  • Review patient information as required by the rooming process and competently enter information into the patient medical record
  • Perform basic patient care activities including: place patients in rooms, take and chart vital signs
  • Performs other duties as assigned
RESPONSIBILITIES - Licensed Practical Nurse
  • Perform assigned clinical tasks under the direction of a provider or a registered nurse including: administer and dispense medications and immunizations
  • Contribute to the initial and ongoing assessment of patients
  • Obtain patient information and medical history including current medications, allergies, chief complaint, and immunization schedule
  • Perform basic patient care activities including taking and charting vital signs
  • Under the direction of a registered nurse, provide patient education from standardized teaching plans
  • Transcribe orders, maintain telephone communication, and call prescription refills as directed by providers
  • Perform other duties as assigned


QUALIFICATIONS - Clinical Associate

Minimum Education / Work Experience
  • High school diploma or equivalent
License/ Certifications
  • Active BLS/CPR certification, or obtained within 3 months of hire
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
  • Ability to learn specialized clinical tasks and procedures in alignment with HHS standards
  • Ability to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse work force and patient population
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and communicate with team members
  • Ability to read and follow written instructions; understand and communicate verbal and written information
  • Ability to follow instructions and perform job duties that meet departmental performance expectations as well as HHS standards related to quality, accuracy, productivity, patient and family centered care, customer service, etc
Preferred Qualifications
  • Direct patient care experience (such as EMT, Nursing Assistant)
  • Post high-school education in healthcare, biology, or related field
  • Bilingual in English and at least one other language commonly spoken by HHS patients
QUALIFICATIONS - Medical Assistant

Minimum Qualifications
  • Diploma or Associate's Degree from an AAMA or AMT accredited Medical Assistant training program that includes a clinical externship or a formal medical services training program of the United States Armed Forces, as evidenced through educational transcripts.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with EPIC and/or similar electronic health record
  • Possesses active certification/registration by the AAMA, AMT, or NHCA at time of hire.
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
  • Ability to perform specialized clinical tasks and procedures in alignment with HCMC standards
  • Knowledge of medical terminology
  • Ability to effectively interview patients and collect information required to obtain medical history and to accurately register and/ or schedule patients
  • Ability to work cohesively and respectfully with a diverse work force and patient population
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and communicate with multidisciplinary staff
License/Certifications
  • Credentialed or Registered through AAMA, AMT, or NHCA within 13 (thirteen) months of employment.
  • Must have and maintain valid American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Providers certification or the ability to obtain this within the first three months of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS - Licensed Practical Nurse

Minimum Qualifications
  • Completion of an approved course in practical nursing
  • Possession of a valid license as a Licensed Practical Nurse issued by the Minnesota Board of Nursing
  • Current CPR certification
Knowledge/ Skills/ Abilities
  • Must possess basic nursing skills and deliver safe patient care
  • Attention to detail and ability to problem solve are essential
  • Effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills
