The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. The above hiring range represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.

Position Summary

Under the direction of the Chair and Clinical Nurse Manager, the Nurse Practitioner will assist the Chair and the Division of Urologic Oncology with outpatient-related duties, including obtaining patients' histories, completing directed physical exams for post-operative and follow-up care, ordering appropriate laboratory and radiology studies, fielding clinical correspondence, and obtaining required insurance authorizations. The Nurse Practitioner, in concert with the physicians, is responsible for constructing thoughtful differential diagnoses and tailoring individualized and evidenced-based treatment plans.The Nurse Practitioner integrates the principles of preventive medicine and patient education into all aspects of clinical care.

Responsibilities
  • Assist physicians with the assessment, evaluation, and management of patients.
  • Communicates all clinical activity to the supervising physician.
  • Performs H&P; documents of such per institution standards
  • Assesses patients using all available physical and diagnostic data, incorporating medical history and evaluating patient status and progress with current plan of care
  • Write orders for patients as allowed by state law, e.g., prescribe medications, excluding chemotherapy, non-pharmacologic therapy, diagnostic tests, cultures, or infusion procedures
  • Initiates approved protocol/plan
  • Manages patients with chronic illness requiring repetitive treatments (chemotherapy/infusions) and prepares orders, and manages all aspects of patient care, including outpatient follow-up, from initiation of therapy
  • Monitors and assesses patients during and after selected therapies.
  • Attends staff meetings, patient support meetings, and continuing education pertaining to specialty as appropriate
  • Participates in all quality improvement/process improvement initiatives
  • Obtains insurance authorizations and performs peer reviews as appropriate
  • Performs patient and family education and counseling, including disease state, management/plan of care, side effects, medications, all follow-up
  • Performs phone triage and provides phone follow-up/direction to patients as is appropriate to the situation
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Assist in training the new department MAs, LPNs, and Nurse Practitioners to ensure that each new team member understands their responsibilities and is able to join the team after such training/onboarding effectively.
  • Actively participate in continuing education with the MAs and LPNs regarding new procedures and/or policies pertaining to the Urology department.
  • Leads daily huddles with the MAs to assess the plan for each clinic and resolve any workflow issues before the start of the shift to ensure the most efficient clinic for both the practice and the patients.
  • Assist the mid-level providers, including Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, in the department in building their individual practices and/or dual clinics with their collaborating MDs to ensure productivity and patient care.
  • Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Nursing or equivalent in education and experience, plus one to two years of experience.
  • Must have current New York State Registered Professional Nurse and Nurse Practitioner licenses.
  • Must have NP Board Certification.
  • Must be able to meet New York-Presbyterian Hospital credentialing requirements prior to starting.

Preferred Qualifications
  • A minimum of five years of direct experience is preferred.
  • Urology or Surgery-specific experience is highly preferred.

Other Requirements
  • Working knowledge of provider billing and documentation requirements is a must.
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with physicians.
  • Ability to work under pressure with multiple competing deadlines required, as well as excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Must be highly organized, with excellent communication and follow-through skills.
  • Must have proven record of ability to work as part of a team with administrative, clinical research, and financial staff.
  • Experience utilizing an EMR.
