JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Clinical Dental Assistant/Administrative Associate 2 provides both chairside assistance and clerical support (patient reception) in the Pediatric Dentistry department. This position is primarily located at the Pediatric Dentistry Clinic at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital but may rotate to the College of Dentistry. This position serves as the liaison between dental assistants and patient accounts coordinator to ensure coordination of academic and clinical activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides chairside assistance, such as oral evacuation, retraction, and instrument exchange, for providers; supplies providers with equipment, instruments, and materials for procedures.
  2. Exposes, processes, and labels x-ray film including periapical, occlusal, and panoramic film.
  3. Schedules patients and manages the clinic schedule to promote efficiency.
  4. Confirms patient appointments prior to the day of the appointment, as well as one week in advance.
  5. Communicates expectations with the patient (or responsible party) prior to the appointment and provides instructions for parking and navigation of the Le Bonheur campus.
  6. Monitors and maintains the safety of nitrous oxide usage.
  7. Manages patient registration process including capture of consents.
  8. Communicates clinical procedures, treatment plans, and payment information to patients.
  9. Analyzes patient flow and appointment scheduling issues and implements solutions; coordinates appointment scheduling practices with dental assistants.
  10. Performs other duties as required and necessary.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)

EXPERIENCE: One (1) year of experience with chairside assisting and as a receptionist. Must maintain registration as a licensed dental assistant in the State of Tennessee. Nitrous Oxide Monitoring and Radiology Certification required. Must maintain CPR certification. (Fluency in Spanish is preferred.) (PROOF OF LICENSURE IS REQUIRED).

  • Knowledge of all areas of dental assisting as outlined by the State of Tennessee Board of Dentistry.
  • Knowledge of supportive services or procedures necessary to protect the physical well-being of the patient during routine treatment procedures and during periods of emergencies.
  • Interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituents in a diverse community.
