Job Description

Position Summary

The Clinical Dietitian II is fully engaged in providing Quality/No Harm, Customer Delight, and Stewardship by coordinating all phases of nutrition care including bedside nutrition assessment, nutrition diagnosis, interventions, inserting feeding tubes, monitoring and evaluating outcomes, and counseling clients in a variety of settings. The Clinical Dietitian II performs duties in support of continuous improvement plans and in compliance with The Joint Commission and other licensing, accreditation and regulatory agencies.

Primary Accountabilities

  1. Performs nutrition interventions based on a Nutrition Diagnosis through a systematic process of obtaining, verifying, and interpreting data to make decisions about the nature and cause of nutrition-related problems.
  2. Recommends or makes appropriate changes to the patient/client's nutrition care plan, including enteral and parenteral nutrition.
  3. Monitors and evaluates outcomes to determine the progress a patient /client is making towards achieving their nutrition goals.
  4. Assesses for Malnutrition by conducting Nutrition Focused Physical Assessments. Provides appropriate diagnosis based on available information and diagnostic criteria.
  5. Identifies and implements appropriate actions designed with the intent of changing nutrition- related behavior, risk factors, environmental condition, or other aspects of health status.
  6. Initiates appropriate referrals to interdisciplinary team members.
  7. Educates patient/clients, family and health care team on nutritional needs, diet recommendations, prevention and other issues related to the client's nutritional care.
  8. Provides multi-disciplinary in-services, education and training, including precepting interns and cosigning intern medical record documentation.
  9. Conducts community events, oversees support groups, coordinates, and leads in the development and implementation of multiple community activities to promote population health management.
  10. Conducts outpatient education as needed.
  11. Inserts nasogastric or nasoenteric feeding tubes. Secures with nasal tube retention system when applicable.


Qualifications:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education:
    • Bachelor's Degree if graduated prior to Jan 1, 2024, or
    • Master's Degree if graduated after Jan 1, 2024
  • Licensure:
    • Registered Dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR) within six (6) months of hire.
    • Licensed Dietitian/Nutritionist (LDN) by the State of Florida within eight (8) months of hire.
  • Certification:
    • Must hold current American Heart Association Basic Life Support Healthcare Provider completion card and maintain annually with no interruption.
  • Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
    • Ability to work extended and flexible hours in various locations.
    • Effective verbal and written communication skills to speak and understand the English language and collaborate with a diverse customer-base.
    • Proficient computing skills including use of MS Office Suite and software applications, including charting in electronic medical record.
    • Good organizational skills with ability to prioritize tasks based on levels of patient care, consultations, multi-disciplinary and team rounds.
    • Initiative to work both independently and as part of an interdisciplinary team.
    • Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional demeanor.
    • Ability to respond efficiently in stressful and/or emergent situations.
    • Ability to collect, audit, analyze and evaluate data to document and share outcomes.
    • Must meet Clinical Dietitian Competency Assessment/Skills requirements within 90 days of employment and annually.
    • Trained to place feeding tubes within 90 days of hire.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Master's degree
  • Work Experience: At least one (1) year of clinical experience as a Registered Dietitian


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS - Moderate

  • Physically agile; may require walking, standing running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing or crouching frequently.
  • Medium work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, with or without assistance.
  • May require moving self in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders or over head.
  • May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to 90% of the assigned shift.
  • May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to loud noise.
  • May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following OSHA and CDC Guidelines.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined; on site or remote.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
