Summary:
Collaborates with members of the health care team to provide medical nutrition therapy. Identifies patients at high nutritional risk, assesses nutrition needs and nutrient requirements, develops and implements the nutrition care plan for all assigned patients. Continuously evaluates and monitors the effectiveness and outcomes of medical nutrition therapy intervention. Provides nutrition education to patient and family members. Fosters continuity of care among all phases of the system. Participates in performance improvement and research activities. Supervises room service coordinators and/or diet technicians and mentors dietetic students. Actively assesses, evaluates and maintains professional development and competency.
Formal Education Required:
-Baccalaureate degree in Food and Nutrition, Dietetics, Nutritional Sciences, Human Nutrition, or comparable major
-Successful completion of coordinated program or dietetic internship of not less than 900 hours under the supervision of a Registered Dietitian
-Registered dietitian (RD) by the Commission on Dietetic Registration
-Licensed dietitian (LD) by the Ohio Board of Dietetics
Experience and Training Required:
-One (1) to two (2) years of position related experience
Other Skills, Competencies and Qualifications:
-Ability to operate a computer
-Member of the American Dietetic Association
-Population Specific Competency: Ability to effectively interact with populations of patients/customers with an understanding of their needs for self-respect and dignity
