SUBFUNCTION DEFINITION: Responsible for initial training and ongoing professional development of RNs specializing in medical triage, risk communications, and care coordination for the Cincinnati Children's Nurse Helpline and supported divisions. Responsible for routine assessment of individual & team performance, compliance with medical triage guidelines, and continuous systems innovation. Designs and executes education and training sessions based on QA activities performed. Much of the work focuses on ensuring that nurses have the skills and training to deliver exceptional patient/family experience and best possible health outcomes.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

• Data-Driven Quality Improvement and Analysis

Collaborates and works closely with point of care education council, Education Consultant, and other educators to analyze and validate educational needs of individuals or groups within the point of care. Employs a formalized process to develop data collection and analysis methods to determine the educational needs of individuals/ groups at the point of care. Formal assessment of learning needs is completed at least once each year for the point of care.

Training and Analysis

Coordinates all initial training and any ongoing certification and competency. Provides training or facilitation services to a designated audience with a designated audience with a designated topic focus. Utilizes working knowledge of adult learning theory to effectively prioritize training needs and to tailor content and delivery to audience needs. Co-sponsor educational programs with other organizations. Employs a formalized process to develop data collection and analysis methods to determine the educational needs of individuals/group. Formal assessment of learning needs is completed at least once each year.

Education Design and Development

Coordinate planning, designing, implementation and evaluation of nursing staff educational materials and programs. Assumes leadership role at the departmental level in planning, designing and implementing educational initiatives to achieve expected outcomes. Partners with other departmental leaders to demonstrate effective resource management.

Consultation and Implementation

Synthesizes information, provides consultation and feedback, both formal and informal, to influence the implementation of learning plans. Enhance the abilities of others to learn by identifying and removing barriers to learning. Institutes alternative learning opportunities at the point of care.

Design and Outcomes

Assumes leadership role at the departmental level in planning, designing, and implementing educational initiatives to achieve expected outcomes at the point of care. Applies the ADDIE model to planned education in order to prescribe a variety of strategies, alternatives and resources to accomplish learning goals Partners with other point of care leaders to demonstrate effective resource management at the point of care.

Professional Development

Demonstrates and maintains depth and breadth of clinical knowledge, skills and competence in the point of care setting. Assists at point of care to effectively provide education techniques to enhance learning at the point of care. Evaluates his/her own practice in relation to professional practice standards, guidelines, statues, rules and regulations.

Qualifications:

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Required:

• Bachelor's degree in a related field AND Master's degree in a related field

• Multi-state RN License

• 2 - 5 years of work experience in a related job discipline OH License in clinical discipline

Preferred:

• Prior experience and training in continuous quality improvement

• Prior experience or training in educational theory and curriculum development

• Certification in a relevant field

Unique Skills:

• Positive, confident RN with excellent communication skills and customer service orientation

• Skilled in medical triage, problem-recognition and outcome-oriented decision-making

• Strong computer skills in a work from home environment
