The Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology Program (MACP) at Antioch University Santa Barbara is seekingafull-time Clinical Faculty member to teach in the Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology Department. The Masters of Arts in Clinical Psychology program (MAP) at Santa Barbara is part of the Division of Applied Psychology in the Graduate School of Counseling, Psychology, and Therapy-the largest and fastest growing school in the Antioch University system.

The MACP curriculum is infused with social justice as a foundational frame, while practical experience and self-reflection provide context to support the development of well-rounded practitioners. Our curriculum meets all educational requirements for students to qualify for application as Licensed Marriage and Family Therapists (LMFT) with the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Students may also choose to qualify as Licensed Professional Clinical Counselors (LPCC). Currently, our students in the MACP may elect to choose concentrations in Somatic Psychotherapy or Latinx Mental Health.
The Clinical Faculty member will take the lead in overseeing graduate students' clinical training and developing the program's clinical training component, including development and oversight of the program's clinical skills classes. Demonstrated competence in multicultural psychology clinical training requirements leading to Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) and Professional Clinical Counseling (LPCC) California licensure and any of the following areas is highly desired: clinical practice, family systems, somatic psychotherapy, or Latinx mental health.

Position Overview
Clinical faculty members have responsibility in two areas of faculty engagement including student learning and institutional citizenship. The percent of time devoted to each area varies with unit needs, and individual skills and capacities. Early-career Clinical faculty members will be provided with guidance from experienced faculty members. Clinical faculty report to the Chair of the MA in Clinical Psychology Department. The specific amount of direct instruction will be negotiated with the Chair and approved by the School Dean, in the context of the other assigned duties as a clinical faculty member. Courses are taught on campus and evening and weekend availability is desirable but not required. Clinical faculty members have a flexible hybrid work schedule and are on campus regularly, generally three days per week. Student advising requires knowledge of Antioch policies and a quarterly review of student advisees' academic records and progress. Student advising also requires availability during regular office hours and timely response to students by email, telephone or Zoom.

A Clinical faculty member will serve on program and university committees and is expected to participate in the work of the faculty, including developing the MACP curriculum and ensuring the quality of the curriculum and instruction to meet program, specialization, and California LMFT and LPCC licensure requirements. Clinical faculty are also expected to attend regular departmental meetings as well as scheduled community meetings with AULA every 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of each month.

The position has responsibilities that include:
  • The position involves administrative coordination, including updating training manuals in consultation with the Chair.
  • Direct instruction as a substantive part of engagement in student learning.
  • Mentors and advises students in clinical training within the program.
  • Confers with students on practicum placements and collaborates with external sites. Oversees graduate student clinical training and placements.
  • Coordinates all aspects of practicum site placements; develops new external sites; maintains contact with sites and clinical supervisors serving as university liaison, consults with supervisors and sites to assure compliance with ethical and professional standards and training guidelines.
  • Plays a major role in the practicum orientation process.
  • Maintains current knowledge of relevant regulations and California licensing laws.
  • Develops documents as necessary, coordinates MOUs with placement sites, reviews supervisor evaluations and student self-evaluations.
  • Supports new and continuing faculty teaching clinical skills and practicum courses by meeting with instructors to review course requirements, the importance of providing student feedback, and the overall importance of clinical suitability benchmarks.
  • Coordinates open houses, traineeship fairs, consortium meetings and community building activities, and oversees all documentation related to clinical training.
  • Familiarity with relevant academic research, which informs class activities, broadens learning of key concepts and so forth.
  • Participates in curriculum development and revision, grant-writing, and other departmental initiatives. Performs other duties as assigned by Chair.

QUALIFICATIONS:Th Clinical Faculty in the AUSB MACP Program must hold:
  • Doctoral degree in clinical or counseling psychology or related field from a regionally accredited institution.
  • Licensed as Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) in California, or license eligible if moving from another state. Clinical license as LPCC or Psychologist will be considered.
  • Extensive knowledge of California Marriage and Family Therapy and Professional Clinical Counselor licensure regulations.
  • Approved Supervisor credential (preferred). Prior experience as a clinical supervisor preferred, but not required.
  • Detail orientation and organizational ability.
  • Able to teach and meet students on campus in Santa Barbara when needed.
  • A demonstrated record of successful teaching experience at the graduate level. Teaching experience in a graduate level clinical psychology curriculum is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated commitment to socio-cultural diversity and social justice. We are particularly interested in psychology professionals with a commitment and track record of promoting diversity, equity and inclusion in the realms of research, teaching and/or service.
  • Record of publication and clinical or community professional experience related to the clinical training curriculum.
  • Academic background and experience in any of the following is desirable: somatic psychotherapy and somatic psychology, trauma studies, community psychology, multicultural psychology, mindfulness studies, liberation psychology, and ecopsychology.
  • Strong record of administrative/leadership experience in higher education.
  • A history of publication and presentation work at regional, national, and international levels
  • Optimistic, collaborative, and proactive leadership skills
  • Strong record of both online and on the ground teaching formats
  • Interest in the development of social justice leaders and agents of community dialogue and change.
  • Skilled in demonstration-based teaching (faculty need to teach using real/live demonstration) and experiential learning
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the ability to oversee various operational processes within the department at one time
  • Clear developmental skills with a focus on providing new opportunities for students, faculty and staff to excel.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills-an additional interest in grant writing is preferred
  • Ability to be flexible and working in an environment of expansion and change
