Position Summary



This position requires the full understanding and active participation in fulfilling the mission of Orange Coast Medical Center. The CLS, Tech Specialist, Blood Bank will provide oversight of the Blood Bank departments at Orange Coast Medical Center. The CLS, Tech Specialist, Blood Bank will be responsible for the daily technical operation of the department to provide quality analysis of Blood Bank procedures in compliance with federal regulations and other accreditation standards as related to transfusion medicine.



The CLS, Tech Specialist, Blood Bank will oversee the general operation of the laboratory in the absence of the Blood Bank Supervisor or Laboratory Manager, assume responsibility for special projects, and ensure protocols required for accreditation. The CLS, Tech Specialist, Blood Bank will assist in the development of programs and procedures to assure the department is aligned with community standards. In addition, the CLS, Tech Specialist, Blood Bank will perform work assignments as scheduled, produce accurate and timely results on current patient population in accordance with Orange Coast Medical Center Laboratory and Transfusion Services department’s standards and procedures

Serves as lead trainer and role model for department specific education/training in areas of responsibility for initial and annual competency requirements of Blood Bank staff.



Ensures that any unusual occurrences, quality/safety issues, and customer complaints are documented timely using the Variance Reporting process.



Oversees the overall functioning and technical issues of the specialty departments. Regulatory compliance and readiness for CAP and FDA inspections as needed. Provides accurate and thorough documentation. Develops policy and procedures in MemorialCare policy system for specific department.



Oversees and performs patient testing, internal and external quality control (QC) testing, advanced equipment troubleshooting and maintenance including temperature records. Maintains skills and competency in assigned Laboratory areas.



Assume responsibility for maintaining proper inventories and the appropriate use of supplies and reagents.



Communicates effectively with managers, staff, and medical director regarding all aspects of the areas of specialty. Participates in hospital committees and meetings as needed.



Uses Performance Improvement/Lean methods, lead area specialty meetings or Lean projects to resolve problems and improve work area.



Demonstrates ability to work independently. Make appropriate use of time and prioritize effectively. Maintains focus on objectives and goals. Demonstrates proficiency in computer applications needed to gather, analyze, display, and present data. Other duties as assigned.



*Placement in the pay range is based on multiple factors including, but not limited to, relevant years of experience and qualifications. Qualifications

Minimum Requirements



Qualifications/Work Experience:



Minimum five years of experience in Blood Bank.



Knowledge of current information system preferred



Education/Licensure/Certification:



Bachelor's degree in a science discipline preferred.



Currently licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist by the state of California
