Job Summary
The Clinical Manager Nutrition develops, directs and supervises the activities of the Registered Clinical Dietitian Nutritionists as part of the Medical Staff and as part of the interdisciplinary clinical team, and manages the nutritional care of patients, according to established policies and procedures that are in compliance with institutional policies and within the guidelines of state and other regulatory agencies. In addition, this position provides oversight of patient services ensuring quality food and service. The Clinical Nutrition Manager will direct and assist the preparation and serving of regular meals and therapeutic diets, order supplies, maintain area and equipment in sanitary condition, and assure the smooth operation with other hospital departments. The Clinical Manager Nutrition will work with the Regional Director of Food & Nutrition Services, Operations Manager, and the Executive Chef to ensure menu compliance, department education, interdepartmental staff education, program development, and community involvement to facilitate health maintenance and health promotion.

Essential Functions
Plan, coordinate and manage the nutritional care process mandated by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and other regulatory agencies.
Assess nutritional status, develop malnutrition mitigation, nutrition care plans and interventions, provision of medical nutrition therapy, and patient/family education.
Provide inpatient dietitian coverage as needed.
Develop and implement cost effective, profit-generating nutrition programs, function as a member of the interdisciplinary health care team to coordinate the nutrition care process, and establish and maintain policies, standards and programs for the provision of optimal cost-effective nutrition care for patients.
Coordinating and directing all clinical activities.
Recognizes and adopts activities appropriate to the specific needs of the patient population and demonstrate knowledge of specific issues directly related to the age of the population.
Provides leadership oversight of Nutrition Aides, Registered Dietitian Nutritionists and dietetic interns.
Coaches and mentors staff in the development of new skills and competencies required for successful job performance in a team-based format.
Manage registration status of the Registered Clinical Dietitians with the Commission on dietetic Registration and state certification.
Recognizes the educational needs of the clinical staff for professional growth and development and seek out meaningful educational programs appropriately.
Reviews, revises and updates the medical nutrition therapy formulary annually.
Works closely with department leadership to develop and implement strategies to enhance patient satisfaction, including encouragement to develop menus that are appealing, nutritious and multi-cultural needs.
Participates in the budget process to determine and implement appropriate staff levels.
Tracks and trends consult data and other productivity metrics.
Provides meaningful educational programs for Food & Nutrition Services department staff.
Participates in IT directed projects that impact the electronic medical record and patient room service software.
Reviews and updates order sets for software optimization.
Complete all mandatory learning requirements in a timely manner.
Maintain current licensure and/or certification as required.
Attend and actively participate in all department, team and/or committee meetings.
Comply with all Skagit Regional Health, department and location specific policies and procedures.
Perform other duties as assigned by Supervisor or designee.

Education
Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Food and Nutrition Science required. Master of Science (M.S.) in dietetics or combined master's degree program preferred.

Experience/Training
Minimum three (3) years' experience as a Registered Clinical Dietitian Nutritionist in an inpatient setting. Minimum three (3) years' experience in clinical nutrition management preferred.

License/Certifications
Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN) required. Specialty certification(s) desired. Active and unrestricted Washington State Dietician Certification, required.

Other Skills
Effective verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills required. Must be able to effectively develop, encourages and maintain a team supportive environment among the Clinical Dietitian Nutritionists. The Dietitian Supervisor plans, organizes and delegates functional activities. The Dietitian Supervisor coaches, counsels and develops the supervisory skills of the Registered Clinical Dietitian Nutritionists. Requires management and leadership skills to work with confidential employee and department information, develop budget and staffing plans.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; when working in office. Repetitive tasks such as typing, sitting, answering phones, and interacting with computers and computer systems most of the day is a function of the position. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to focus. This position requires working in an indoor, environmentally controlled environment when in the office.
