Overview
A Psychiatric Clinical Nurse Supervisor is a dedicated and experienced Supervisor leading a team. The ideal CNS will have strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of psychiatric nursing, and a commitment to providing high-quality patient care. This role involves supervising nursing staff, ensuring adherence to clinical standards, and promoting a safe and therapeutic environment for patients.

Responsibilities
  • Leadership and Supervision:

  • - Oversee and coordinate the daily activities of the nursing staff in the psychiatric unit.

    - Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to nursing staff, fostering a collaborative and positive work environment.

    - Conduct performance evaluations and provide feedback to nursing staff to promote professional growth and development.

    - Ensure adequate staffing levels and manage scheduling to maintain efficient unit operations.

  • Patient Care:

  • - Ensure high-quality patient-centered care is provided per clinical standards and best practices.

    - Assist in the development and implementation of individualized patient care plans.

    - Monitor patient progress and coordinate with interdisciplinary team members to optimize patient outcomes.

    - Address and resolve any patient care issues or concerns promptly and effectively.

  • Clinical Oversight:

  • - Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations, standards, and policies related to psychiatric nursing care.

    - Oversee the administration of medications and treatments, ensuring accuracy and adherence to protocols.

    - Conduct regular chart audits and assessments to identify areas for improvement in clinical practices.

    - Promote a safe and therapeutic environment by implementing and enforcing safety protocols and procedures.

  • Education and Training:

  • - Assist in developing and delivering training programs and continuing education opportunities for nursing staff.

    - Stay current with advancements in psychiatric nursing practices and incorporate new knowledge into staff training and patient care.

    - Facilitate regular staff meetings and case conferences to promote communication and knowledge sharing.

  • Administrative Duties:

  • - Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records and documentation.

    - Collaborate with other departments and external agencies to coordinate patient care and services.

    - Assist in developing and implementing policies and procedures to enhance unit operations.

    Qualifications:

    - Education: Associate degree in Nursing (ADN) required; Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred;

    - Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in New Hampshire.

    - Experience: Minimum of 5 years of clinical nursing experience in a psychiatric setting; experience in a supervisory or leadership role preferred, but not mandatory.

    - Certifications: Certification in Psychiatric-Mental Health Nursing (PMH-BC) preferred.

    - Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to manage and resolve conflicts; proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems; excellent organizational and problem-solving abilities.

    Working Conditions:

    - Work is performed in a clinical setting with exposure to potentially aggressive patients.

    - Requires the ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.

    - Must be able to physically perform the position's duties, including lifting patients, standing for long periods, and responding quickly to emergencies.
