Under the direction of the Materials Manager, the Surgical Tech, Clinical Resource will be accountable for overseeing all day-to-day operations of the equipment, supplies, instruments, and other implants needed to care for the surgical patients and work to create positive connections across Mass General Brigham Medical Group (MGB MG).

The Surgical Tech, Clinical Resource will drive MGB MG's mission towards always aspiring to be people's first choice for health and care, rooted in well-being and kindness, by bringing world-class care closer to home and being the bridge to world-renowned hospitals and research when needed. This role will be responsible for direct oversight of all surgical operations, regulatory compliance, quality and safety, and costs of equipment and instrumentation, under the supervision of the Materials Manager.

Essential Functions:

  • Launch, growth, and success of the surgical programs within the ASC.
  • Maintain the inventory and instruments needed for all specialty services in the ASC.
  • Assist the Perioperative leaders in conducting in-services and providing training to staff on new equipment and instrumentation acquired for the ASC.
  • Supply chain management (inventory/charge capture/cost reduction), for specialty services within the ASC, Sports Medicine, Ophthalmology, and Total Joints
  • Manages preference cards and updates them on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist in onboarding new surgeons and ensuring all equipment and supplies needed to perform new cases are acquired on time.
  • Collaborates in meetings with multidisciplinary experts to manage and deliver quality, cost-effective patient care.
  • Function as an expert with a specific surgical focus encompassing all aspects of patient/family care, including the availability of equipment, standards, and competencies.
  • Scrub cases depending on the necessity of the ASC as determined by the department lead and the Nurse Manager.
  • Clinical Operations work remains a priority.


Strategy/Business Development and Innovation

  • In conjunction with clinical and senior administrative leadership, sets the vision of the service line and executes that mission.
  • In conjunction with the physician/clinical leadership, identify new technology and diagnostic opportunities.
  • Identifies projects to continuously enhance patient experience and quality of care.


Collaboration

  • Participating in MGB AmSurg Inc. On-Boarding meetings to stay abreast of surgeon status and familiarize self with preferences and needs related to surgeries being performed at the ASC.
  • Collaborating with Leadership on all pertinent aspects of the ASC.
  • Working cross-functionally with Mass General Brigham leaders in the areas of ambulatory services, operations, and others as assigned/needed.
  • Serving as the key contact person for surgeons, Vendors, Reps, and other professional staff to ensure all operational services comply with Mass General Brigham Policies.


Financial Management and Operations

  • Identifies opportunities to optimize clinical reimbursement and reduce case costs.
  • Works with the Nurse Manager and other Senior leaders to ensure equipment, supply, and instrument purchases are within the department's budget.
  • Assist with obtaining quotes from vendors to purchase new equipment.
  • Works with Materials Manager to lower costs, change products to meet MGB guidelines and integrate new items as they are requested by surgeons.


Quality Improvement and Patient Safety

  • Acts as an advocate for patients and ordering providers.
  • Ensures risk mitigation, patient safety, and compliance with best practices across the MGB MG.


Qualifications

About You

  • A strategic systems-thinker with a strong operational focus.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment. Workload and practice hours may necessitate working evenings or portions of weekends.


Qualifications

  • Certified as a Surgical Technologist


Experience

  • Demonstrates expert knowledge of supplies and equipment needed for multiple specialties.
  • Demonstrates ability to perform surgical cases by continuous evaluations and presentations on the needs of the specialty.
  • Ability to develop educational in-services.
  • Able to obtain new skills by attending clinical educational events.
  • Financial skills to participate in budgeting and monitoring of costs.
  • 5 years' experience in an operating room setting. Experience in multi-service lines
  • Has successfully completed an accredited educational program for surgical technologists AND is certified as a surgical technologist accredited by the National Commission for Certifying Agencies and the American College of Surgeons and the Association of Surgical Technologists
