Clinical Pharmacist II--Designated Sterile Compounding Pharmacist

Essential Functions:

1. Supervises the compounding activities of Clinical Pharmacists and Certified Pharmacy

Technicians/Intern

a. Monitors compliance with established policy and procedures as well as state and

outside regulatory bodies.

b. Responsible for staff training and adherence

c. In the case of staff shortages, may function in the capacity of Clinical Pharmacist

2. Implements a regulatory compliant pharmacy compounding program.

a. Serves as a subject matter expert for pharmacy staff and other MEE departments.

b. Operates as the designated compounding pharmacist.

c. Accountable as the point person for follow-up and resolution of issues pertaining to

terile and non-sterile compounding.

d. Participates in the design and function of proposed cleanroom modifications and

construction.

e. Reviews all cleanroom certification reports, responds to deficiencies immediately

f. Oversees pharmacy quality assurance measures, including environmental sampling,

media fill, and gloved fingertip sampling

3. Serve as a subject matter expert to assist in identifying and mitigating ongoing risk through

review of data and analytic

4. Reviewing day-to-day deviations, excursions, and concerns in the quality assurance plans to

remediate in real-time, performing trend analysis to identify possible risk within MEE.

5. Provide knowledge and support to the compounding areas, with compliance- centric proce

audits, root cause analysis, and quality assurance and performance improvement initiative

6. Visit all compounding areas (Longwood and Main Campus) to observe pharmacy-related

practices and audit drug-related controls to identify areas of vulnerability, correct deficiencie

and ensure consistent standard of practice between both campuses. Oversee and manage

database programs to facilitate the ongoing compliance of training, procedures, and

documentation essential to ensure patient safety and mitigate risk to meet the needs of MEE.

Regulatory Compliance:

1. Complies with all State and Federal rules, regulations and laws which govern the practice of

pharmacy.

2. Completes annual MEE/MGB regulatory compliance training

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

• Graduate of an ACPE accredited College of Pharmacy required

• Minimum 2-4 years' experience in hospital and/or compounding facility

• Current (or eligible for) licensure as a pharmacist in the Commonwealth of Massachusett

• Completion of ASHP accredited PGY-1 Pharmacy Residency preferred

• Board certification in sterile compounding (BCSCP) preferred

• Exceptional aptitude or knowledge may be considered in lieu of experience
