Job Description

As part of the Psychiatric Pharmacy team at the MUSC Institute of Psychiatry (IOP), Clinical Pharmacy Specialists participate in direct patient care activities for a range of inpatient service teams such as geriatric psychiatry, emergency psychiatry, general adult psychiatry and acute psychiatry, among others. Additionally, psychiatric pharmacists provide direct patient care for outpatients through Collaborative Drug Therapy Management in the Psychiatric Pharmacist Injection Clinic. Emphasis is placed on: interdisciplinary rounding with psychiatry treatment teams, developing comprehensive medication regimens for patients with mental illness, providing shared operational support in the inpatient psychiatry pharmacy, patient education, staff education, and leading disease-specific initiatives (protocol and guideline development). The clinical specialist will also serve as a preceptor (including PGY1 Pharmacy and PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy residents), be part of our psychiatric pharmacist on call rotation, and precept or lead quality improvement or research projects. Opportunities also exist to collaborate with MUSC College of Pharmacy for additional educational endeavors such as precepting and lecturing.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Training and Education: Doctor of Pharmacy degree and completion of pharmacy residency program; two years of clinical or hospital pharmacy experience may substitute for the clinical pharmacy residency program.

Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations: The candidate must also be licensed or eligible for licensure in the state of South Carolina. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities: BCPP certification (or BCPP eligible) as well as completion of PGY2 Psychiatric Pharmacy Residency preferred, but not required.
