Job Summary:

The Department of Family Medicine provides primary health care, educates medical and psychology students and graduates, conducts research and engages with communities. This position will provide therapeutic evaluation and treatment of patients with psychological disorders at Family Medicine clinic(s) coordinating with multi-disciplinary clinicians to provide team-based care in a patient-centered medical home setting committed to providing equitable care to a diverse population.

Ideal candidates will have experience with integrated team-based care, with additional expertise in motivational interviewing, evidence-based psychotherapies, and working with diverse populations. Clinical skill is required for conducting assessments, brief psychotherapy, health and behavior change interventions, substance use treatment, and triage to the appropriate level of care.

Examples of Work Performed

The duties and responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:

Clinical Care

  • Provide consultations and recommendations for behavioral health questions and presenting concerns to family medicine providers.
  • Assess, diagnose and treat behavioral, mental, and emotional conditions.
  • Facilitate group visits as needed.
  • Design and implement health promotion/disease prevention interventions.
  • Support goal setting and patient self-management skills.


Teaching and Supervision

  • Directly supervise behavioral health trainees (graduate students, psychology interns, post-doctoral fellows, and pre-licensure psychologists).


Interprofessional

  • Provide team-based care with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Coach physicians in communication skills and techniques of health behavior change.
  • Conduct hospital rounds as needed.
  • Facilitate referrals for more significant mental health conditions.
  • Participate in quality improvement and practice transformation initiatives, workflow modification, and the identification and deployment of new efficiencies.


Administrative

  • Maintains eligibility for School of Medicine Faculty.
  • Keeps well-informed of the latest developments in field, both academically and through applied skill.
  • May participate in clinical research projects (but not required to be a clinician-researcher unless pursuing traditional promotion path).

    Accepts other responsibilities specifically assigned by the Director of Behavioral Health and Integrated Programs.
  • Attends and presents at conferences, meetings and trainings in order to maintain certification and enhance professional skills; participates in faculty development activities.

Onsite - this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

  • Education: Doctoral degree in Psychology (PhD or PsyD)
  • Experience: Completion of an accredited postdoctoral program with enough clinical hours to be licensed as a clinical psychologist.
  • Special Skills: Ability to obtain Colorado state licensure as a psychologist. Ability to obtain and maintain credentialing through the University of Colorado Health system.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with integrated team-based care, particularly in a primary care based setting that promotes an inclusive environment.
  • Expertise in motivational interviewing, and evidence-based psychotherapies.
  • Experiences and interests with culturally diverse groups.
  • Success working with diverse populations of students.
  • Interest in developing and implementing curricula that address multicultural issues with experience with a variety of teaching methods and/or curricular perspectives.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Clinical skill is required for conducting brief and targeted assessments to provide short-term psychotherapy interventions, health and behavior change, substance use treatment, and triage for appropriate level of care.
  • Demonstrated skill in supervision of clinical staff and trainees.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with clinic faculty and staff.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, commitment to diversity, experience working with cultures other than their own, experience interacting with communities of color.
  • Experience training and developing staff.
  • Experience with incorporating diverse perspectives and fostering an inclusive environment.
