The Neurobiology of Affective and Traumatic Experiences (NATE) Lab at McLean Hospital is hiring a full-time, research assistant (RA) to conduct research with human subjects under the supervision of Dr. Nathaniel Harnett. The NATE lab investigates how traumatic and stressful experiences shape our brains to influence mental health outcome such as PTSD. Methods include neuroimaging (fMRI), fear conditioning, phlebotomy, and psychophysiology (e.g., skin conductance).

The RA will follow established policies and procedures and work on studies using neuroimaging techniques to examine the neurobiology of individuals recently exposed to acute trauma. The RA may be responsible for the following activities:

• recruiting and screening potential study participants;

• scheduling participants for study appointments;

• facilitating participant completion of the study protocol;

• administering study procedures such as phlebotomy, behavioral testing, and helping with fMRI scans;

• collecting and organizing participant data;

• maintaining and updating data generated by the study;

• performing preliminary statistical analyses;

• assisting with conference abstract submissions and manuscript preparation.

This position is ideal for post-bachelor training in clinical research and preparation to apply to PhD programs in clinical psychology, neuroscience, or medical school.

Qualifications

Required Experience:

• Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Biology, Neuroscience, or a related field

• At least one year of relevant experience required. Previous human subjects research experience

Preferred experience with:

• MRI data collection and analysi

• Basic statistical knowledge and experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, STATA, etc.)
