GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Kimberly Laboratory in the Center for Genomic Medicine and the MGH Division of Neurocritical Care in the Department of Neurology is seeking a highly motivated individual to assist with ongoing and future clinical research studies. The research focus of the laboratory is stroke and Alzheimer's disease, which is a major cause of death and disability in the United States. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities of the position include but are not limited to:

• In-patient recruitment and informed consent for participation in clinical research studie

• Patient and family interviews; in-person and telephone assessment of patients' well-being and cognitive function

• Operation of a portable, low-field MRI scanner

• Data extraction from electronic medical record

• Maintenance of research databases using REDCap and Microsoft Excel

• Coordinating tissue sample collections and sample processing

• Managing sample storage and inventory for research studie

• Participation in monthly recruitment meetings: present on progress of subject enrollment, identify and discuss effective strategies and areas for improvement

• Maintaining documentation for research studies: regulatory documents, case report forms, records of subject visits, correspondence with study sponsors, etc.

• Preparing clinical trial documentation for study monitor visits and responding to data queries and clarification request

• Assisting with IRB submissions and amendment

• Assisting with drafting of project and grant application

• Working on individual research projects devised together with the PI

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• Must be highly self-motivated and eager to work independently

• Attention to detail and commitment to producing high quality data to be used in future acute brain injury research

• Exceptional maturity and professionalism are essential, as the coordinator is given access to personal and confidential medical information

• Comfortable interacting with physicians, nurses, and brain-injured patients and their familie

• Must possess strong organization, interpersonal and communication skill

• Must be articulate in oral and written communication, and able to communicate effectively with individuals of varying background

• Able to prioritize multiple tasks and balance the demands of multiple project

• Knowledge of standard laboratory technique

• Desire to be involved with cutting edge, clinically relevant research

Qualifications

EDUCATION:

B.A. or B.S. in biology or related field by start date.

EXPERIENCE:

• New graduates with relevant coursework

• Computer skills required:

Ø Windows operating system: advanced

Ø Office Suite: advanced

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

No direct reports but may have opportunity for training student interns.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):

No fiscal responsibility except to track laboratory and/or clinical research related expenditures.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Normal laboratory and office setting. Recruitment takes place in the Neuroscience inpatient units and the outpatient Neurology clinic. Full-time position (40 hours per week), starting Summer 2024.
