The Clinical Research Coordinator I (CRC) for the Orthopaedic Hand Service will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operation and execution of the various tasks necessary for coordination of all clinical research studies being conducted by the orthopaedic hand service. The CRC for the Orthopaedic Hand Service will be responsible for IRB protocol development, IRB approval maintenance, candidate screening, clinical evaluation, coordination of patient follow-up, data collection, and database maintenance (all record keeping) for all research projects managed by this group. Working closely with all 5 of the Hand and Upper Extremity Surgeons, he or she will ensure the efficient running of the Hand Research Program in order to provide the highest possible care to involved patients. This position will be 40 hours per week, Onsight.

A 2 year commitment is preferred.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Clinical:

1. Serves as principle clinical research coordinator of the Orthopaedic Hand Research Program.

2. Explain the purpose of the project in a clear and concise manner to assist with obtaining informed consent from patients interested in participating in the study.

3. Provides one-on-one counseling as necessary for orthopaedic hand research patients.

4. Serves as information resource for patients and healthcare providers.

5. Follows up with patients by phone to provide support, information, and help improve compliance with patient care protocols.

6. Reviews patients' charts to ensure up-to-date laboratory testing and determine schedule of visits with Orthopaedic Hand Research Program and/or Physician Assistant.

Research:

1. Designs and writes Orthopaedic Hand-related research grants in concert with the Orthopaedic Hand Faculty members and the Sr Administrative director of research.

2. Coordinate all aspects of data collection, including enrolling patients and abstracting data from medical records. Monitor other study sites and multi-centered trials if part of the research methodology of a given project.

3. Coordinate human studies committee submissions and reports.

4. Coordinates all Orthopaedic Hand-related research activities.

5. Assists with analysis of data from Orthopaedic Hand Research program.

6. Assists with research activities of the Orthopaedic Hand Research program including grant writing and conduction of research protocols.

7. Assists with writing research articles and other publications.

8. Work with the research team to review data and make recommendations in regards to data collection and analysis.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

1. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

2. Excellent organizational skills with ability to work independently while paying close attention to details.

3. Must work effectively, professionally, and confidently with a variety of patients and healthcare providers.

4. Must have strong clinical skills with ability to perform clinical assessments, formulate research decisions, and provide appropriate research and clinical counseling and education.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Bachelor's degree with science/research related study may also be acceptable.

2. Familiarly with clinical research and working in a clinical research setting
