GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:

The Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and the Corrigan Minehan Heart Center are seeking a highly motivated Clinical Research Data Analyst interested in working on multiple research projects focused on health outcomes and cost-effectiveness in cardiovascular disease.

Insights from this initiative are ultimately expected to lead to improvements in health outcomes.

The candidate will have the opportunity to lead complex analyses of observational data Responsibilities will include developing research protocols, compiling data, managing databases, conducting statistical analyses, and reporting output in numerical and graphic formats under the supervision of the PI. The candidate will work with electronic health record data. Fields will span diagnostic, medication, notes, laboratory, electrocardiographic, imaging, and genomic data.

Ideal candidates will have expertise in clinical informatics and database management, as well as data analysis, and will be highly motivated and eager to learn about cardiovascular disease. The candidate will need a thorough understanding of advanced statistical techniques used in research. Exceptional organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and the ability to prioritize multiple tasks are essential. The candidate must be self-motivated, independent in task completion, and comfortable accepting feedback and guidance from colleagues. A high level of discipline and adherence to confidentiality is essential, as the analyst is given access to personal and confidential medical information. The successful candidate is highly motivated, scientifically inquisitive, and thrives in an academic atmosphere, in which investigators seek to understand how to improve quality and value for patients with heart disease.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Specific responsibilities will include the following:

• Provide clinical data analysis and management support to the investigative team.

• Curate and organize electronic medical record data from multiple sources and repositories.

• Lead the development and implementation of advanced statistical methodologies and modeling techniques for complex research projects in heart disease clinical outcomes.

• Provide expertise and guidance in the interpretation of analytical results, offering insights and recommendations for further investigation or action.

• Take a proactive role in identifying opportunities for process improvement and optimization within the data analysis workflow.

• Lead the integration of diverse datasets from multiple sources, ensuring data quality, consistency, and integrity throughout the analysis process.

• Serve as a subject matter expert on statistical methods and data analysis techniques, providing training to research team member

• Assist with preparation of IRB submissions and renewals.

• Communicates with the research team to understand safety and effectiveness data for studies and improvement projects through data visualization and creation of graphs, charts, and report

• Prepares data/case report forms/documents for upcoming audits, if needed

• Conduct literature review and library searches to gather supporting data

• Maintain data on storage devices as appropriate and ensure data is adequately backed-up

• Create and maintain longitudinal health record and curated disease-specific datasets.

• Perform data analysis against hospital systems to glean meaningful insights and produce actionable reports for team.

• Develop and implement electronic phenotyping algorithms for electronic health record data.

• Apply traditional and novel epidemiologic and statistical methods to identify disease risk factors and analyze relations between risk factors and health outcomes.

• Work with research information security and IRB to ensure compliance and adherence to institutional, federal, and other security, regulatory, and compliance policies relating to health data management.

• Participate in the development of clinical research documents (eg. Protocols, Case Report Forms, Reports and Statistical Analysis Plans) where relevant.

• Develop a Data Management Plan (DMP) for studies, maintain DMP throughout lifecycle of study projects, and ensure DMP is followed according to study design and requirements.

• Develop database data specifications, including user requirements, edit rules/checks, query logic and data validations.

• Work with investigative team and Principal Investigator to support, maintain and further develop our analytical capabilities which includes but is not limited to dashboard and report development, QA of existing reports, and documentation of system functionality.

• Work with project manager to ensure data access is provisioned in accordance with protocol approvals.

• Assist and provide input into study and project level data analysis plan.

• Collaborate with IT and implementation team(s) to address Clinical application requests and/or changes to Clinical database systems.

• Collaborate with data management teams to optimize data storage, retrieval, and processing capabilities, ensuring efficient and secure access to research data.Collaborate with external partners and stakeholders to leverage additional data sources or expertise, fostering interdisciplinary collaboration and knowledge exchange.

• Lead the development and maintenance of standardized analytical protocols and best practices to ensure consistency and reproducibility across projects.

• Lead the dissemination of research findings through the preparation of high-quality manuscript

• Actively participate in professional development activities to stay abreast of emerging trends, methodologies, and technologies in the field of health data analysis.

Qualifications

SKILLS/ABILITIES/COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

• Master of Science in Clinical Informatics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Epidemiology, Public Health, Bioinformatics, or a related discipline.

• Working knowledge of relational databases and database structures is key.

• Experience with cloud computing in Google Cloud or AWS is strongly preferred.

• Must have demonstrated proficiency with at least one of the following computer languages/environments: SAS, SQL, R, Python, Unix, Java, HTML, Matlab, R, C, C++.

• Experience with traditional epidemiological and biostatistical modeling methods, including time to event analysis, prediction modeling, and absolute risk modeling is required.

• Experience with statistical methods for high dimensional data analysis and disease classification algorithms.

• Experience with natural language processing is encouraged.

• Proficiency in oral and written English communication is required.

• Experience with electronic health records research or claims data is strongly encouraged.

• Ability to work independently while making necessary connections with experts in various computational analysis groups.

EDUCATION:

Bachelor's degree required, master's degree required. Coursework in health informatics, computer science, mathematics, biostatistics, epidemiology or related fields preferred.

If newly graduating from graduate school, prefer course experience in advanced statistical methods and machine learning

EXPERIENCE:

Experience working in an analytic environment for 1 or 2 years preferred.
