Position exists in Program VII at Porterville Developmental Center. The incumbent provides social work services to and on behalf of forensic and non-forensic consumers residing in the Secure Treatment Area and to their families, from pre-admission to placement in the community or transfer to another facility. Maintains current required license and current certification in CPR, First aid, CMIT and defensive driving. Participates in a minimum of 36 hours of required training each year.

This position is not eligible for telework, this position is in person only.

Working Conditions

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: Ongoing contact with clients, staff and the public with potential exposure to communicable diseases, blood-borne pathogens, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinical nursing environment. Contact with clients may include assisting with restrictive intervention techniques, the intervention or physical redirection during client maladaptive behavior episodes. The LCSW/CSW may be expected to assist staff with repositioning, translocation, or lifting of clients in an emergency. The LCSW/CSW may also work under stressful conditions and/or work irregular hours.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Must possess and maintain sufficient strength, agility, endurance and sensory ability to perform the duties contained in the duty statement, and during mentally and emotionally stressful and emergency situations encountered on the job without endangering their own health and well-being or that of their fellow employees, forensic clients, non-forensic clients, or the public.

Level of Care Employees will be required to perform the following Essential Functions : Must be able to lift 50 pounds without assistance. Must be able to participate in client containment, intervention or restraint. Must have the ability to work extended hours and various shifts. Must float to all work areas within the facility if called upon to do so.

Department Information
The California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) is the agency through which the State of California provides services and supports to individuals with developmental disabilities.

These disabilities include intellectual disability, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, autism and related conditions. Services are provided through state-operated developmental centers and community facilities, and contracts with 21 nonprofit regional centers. The regional centers serve as a local resource to help find and access the services and supports available to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Cutoff Dates

  • Experience identifying and recommending appropriate services based on assessment and, where applicable, civil or penal code commitments.
  • Experience providing oversight to others in the field of Clinical Social Work.
  • Experience performing clinical supervision of unlicensed social worker staff in need of clinical hours for the completion of requirements leading to licensure as a Clinical Social Worker.
